When I print out the report from Paydirt for Pension deductions the number is supposed to match the consolidated amount in the G/L - what might be the reason that this number doesn't balance? The amount in the G/L is showing lower than the report from Paydirt. I have checked everyone's template and the proper code is there - why isn't it pulling the full amount into the G/L?
Thanks!

Karre:

The most likely reason is some kind of timing difference. The second most likely reason is that the transactions that should be in the GL are missing.

You mentioned "...match the consolidated amount in the G/L" If you are consolidating the transaction this makes it very difficult to reconcile and find any errors.

You didn't mention which report but I believe all of them allow you to select a date range. Run the report one period at a time and compare to GL. Hopefully you will find one month that is different and be able to track it down from there.

Karre,

Another thing to check is if there are any batches deleted by mistake in the GL. Go to Inquiries>View Batch Status and see if there are any PayDirt batches that were deleted.

Karre,

It is possible a Journal Entry was made into the Pension liability account from the GL in error as well. Check for any entries in the detail listing that are not coming from either PayDirt or AP (assuming you are paying your Pension provider from AP). Check the individual months pension amounts in the GL versus PayDirt to see if the discrepancy occurred in a single month. When was the last time you can confirm the balances between PayDirt and the GL were in balance?

Further to Ken's suggestion: I often create a source journal in GL called, in ttis case, "Not Payroll" that includes all the source codes EXCEPT those from PayDirt. Running that Source Journal report against the Payroll accounts in question will quickly show any transactions that originated from journal entries or elsewhere.
