i understand how to change the fiscal year end however do I need to do a year end first?

Changing a fiscal year end is a lot more complicated than simply changing the dates in the fiscal calendar, and there is no definite answer as to whether you have to run year end first.

You should ask your Adagio consultant for advice. I made a presentation at the last Adagio conference on this topic, and I would be happy to share my presentation with your consultant, if they need assistance.
