Hello Amy,

If all your stations are using ONLY Adagio Payable to access the Payables data, then use Windows Explorer to open your data directory and rename the file ADSPROF.xxx to HideADSPROF.xxx where xxx is the file extension. Start Adagio Payables on one of the workstations and, when it prompts you for the location of your EZFile Directories, enter (or browse to) P:\SOFTRAK\SYSTEM.

This should get everything "back on the rails", assuming that every workstation has drive P: mapped to the same place on the network. Certainly, there should be no problem getting you back up and running (although you might want to have a chat with your computer technician).

Hi Amy,

To start with, it would be useful to know how the Adagio programs were 'moved' to the network drive P. Was the program re-installed? Were directories and files moved from one location to another?

Without bogging you down with too much technical mumbo-jumbo, when Adagio is used in a network situation, all users need to access Adagio from the same place. You indicated that the P drive is the location for Adagio. Here's a checklist for things to look for:

1) You have a folder P:\softrak\apwin which contains the Adagio Payables program apwin.exe.

2) You have a folder P:\softrak\system which contains other program files.

3) The shortcut you are using is actually running the program on P. Right-click on the shortcut, choose Properties, and make sure that the target is P:\softrak\apwin\apwin.exe.

4) Within that P:\softrak\system folder, you need to see files called eztasks.ld4 and mccodes.ld4. As Andrew indicated in his post, the ADSPROF pointer file is looking for those files and can't find it.

5) Also important is the user file that contains all of the Adagio user Login initials and passwords. I can't post the location and file name publically (for security reasons). Likely the reason for you not being able to log into Adagio as anyone but SYS is that a pointer can't find the user file.

I suggest simply re-entering the Users rather than trying to find/copy files. Note that the security Groups will still exist and don't have to be re-entered, just the user initials/PWs. Do this by logging in as SYS, then from the File menu, choose Users and create the users. Remember to assign the Group if you use those.
---

If you are missing any files/folders above, I would suggest reinstalling Adagio Payables to the location P:\softrak\apwin. This is important not only for simply getting access but also for correctly updating other functions such as the ability to print reports. Make sure that after the re-installation (choose P as the report tables drive, by the way), you run a workstation setup on that new machine.

Amy:

Your technician should have installed Adagio to a drive on your LAN server. To discover where he installed the applications, go to your Adagio icons (hopefully on the Windows desktop), right-click on one of them & choose "Properties". Then look in the field labelled "Target". In front of the filename will be the drive where it is located (ie. P:\Softrak\CRWin\CRWin.exe).

If it is obviously a LAN drive, then follow Andrew's instructions using the drive letter that you have uncovered.

If the drive letter is C:\ or Andrew's suggestion does not work, then you should have an Adagio consultant pay you a visit and fix the installation problems.

Andrew, maybe you could give Amy a name of someone near to her?

Amy:

The problem is in your setup: "The Adagio PROGRAM is installed on each of three computers separately."

This is result in the file and record locking not working correctly and will almost certainly lead to corruption of your data.

Adagio should be installad in a folder on one system (peer-to-peer or client/server). That must be shared with the same drive letter for all users on all systems. The data does not have to use the same drive letter as the programs.

Install all the Adagio modules on the "server." Use custom install and be sure to select the "workstation setup" files. Then run the workstation install on the other systems (\softrak\allwkst\allwkst.exe).

(Also turn off opportunistic locking on all systems later than Windows 98, including the server, by running \softrak\system\chksys.exe.)

This will ensure:

-- record and file locking
-- common userlist and permissions
-- proper user count with LanPaks
-- compliance with the software license terms.

Just to add to Ralph's comments (which are all correct), having the programs installed locally will give negligible speed improvement. The biggest factor for speed is data transfer across the network. Having the programs on the network rather than local contributes to a far smaller percent of network traffic (and speed) once the programs are loaded.

So to echo Ralph, the Adagio programs and associated files should be installed on the network P drive, rather than 3 separate instances on local computers, to make sure the data file are locked properly. For example, you could have one person working on an invoice batch and a second person post it - not a desirable situation.

Amy,

As long as only one user is in a set of data at one time, your data should post correctly.

Of course, I am paranoid , so I recommend frequent backups. The backup built into all Adagio modules works great.
