We have recently developed an error in Adagio Inventory. When attempting to post stock trnafers an error message is displayed: "Critical Error: [1011] insuffeciant rights to create file in data directory". Rest assured I have sufficiant rights. Attempts to remedy: 1)shut down all workstations and reboot server 2)run integrity check in inventory (no errors found) We have been running Adagio for 8 months now, without this problem. We have, in the interm, used Accpac for stock transfers. Edit: Now the same thing is happening in adjustments I have noticed that the stock transfers that I do in Accpac do not appear in Adagio and vice versa, is this normal?

Hello Nick, Since this has been running fine for the last 8 months, could you list what might have changed in the last few days? Have you installed a new machine, or started running Adagio on a new computer? If you log in as Administrator, does the problem go away?

Hi Nick, Error 1011 often occurs when Adagio attempts to create a temporary file that already exists (and shouldn't). Often this is the result of a system crash and temporary work files were not cleared successfully. Adagio uses temporary files for Stock Transfers, Adjustments and Shipments so that you could be in the middle of transaction entry, close the function, and then come back to it with losing your work. (note that in Accpac Plus IC, if you close stock transfers without posting, you lose the entries). The name of the data file is ICSTKTMP.DAT; make sure it doesn't exist if you haven't made any entries. Also make sure it doesn't have the 'read-only' attribute set on the file (which would be the case if you restored data from a CD-ROM). ------------------------------- To answer your question about stock transfers and the audit lists, indeed Adagio and Accpac Plus write to different files. This is because Adagio can transfer items to a different item number (not just to a new location) and Plus cannot recognize that level of functionality. Thus the necessity for separate audit reports.

It is a Windows 2000 server. There are 11 workstations. 9 have Windows XP Pro on them and 2 have Windows 98. I have tried doing a stock exchange on both the XP and the 98 machines. We have Lanpaks for 20 users. I thought the actual program was on each workstation, that explains why thing are so slow loading. Transaction History report takes for ever. All that graphics going accross Cat 5 wire. Remember we are having the same problem in Adjustments, and that everything is working ok in AccPac. If you have any other questions please let me know. Thanks Nick

Nick, I have seen some cases where updates to Windows (2000, XP and server) have turned opportunistic locking back on, even if you had disabled it. You can check this by running \softrak\system\chksys.exe on both the server and the XP workstations. (The Win 98 stations are not directly affected, but of course are accessing the same files on the server.) Also, as you point out, a lot of data is moving over the network. That means an unreliable network card, cable or swtich/hub port could be at fault. To isolate this, try copying the data to a local drive and running the same processes. If they run without error locally, the problem may lie with network issues. (All the best to you as you work to isolate the problem; these intermittent issues can be most frustrating.)

Warren:
I have seen a client where they would get this message a few times a week. It was caused by the same thing: a temporary index file that shouldn't have been there. The Adagio processes weren't expecting to find an index file when the matching data file didn't exist.
The problem was that when a matching pair of temporary files were created for a process, both files should have been deleted. But in fact, the data file was deleted but not the matching index file.
Eventually they replaced the server and the problem disappeared. But if this is an entirely isolated incident for your client, the explanation might be different.

We had another client report this error. It was showing the error in each of the modules that were attempted to be opened. The loading messages in the bottom left hand corner would get to 'checking missing data files' and then pop up 'Critical error: [1011] insufficient rights to create file in data directory' error message. In this case it wasn't a rights issue, it was a missing SD file; SDRPST’*. Removing/renaming the corresponding file SDRPST’I, and having the program re-create both was the solution.
