I would like to track GST only(lucky Albertans) in Adagio Payables using the tax tracking feature, but it appears that I will have to create a distribution code for each account in the ledger's chart of accounts if I wish to be able to post purchases made to each one via Payables, or is there a way to use a master distibution code for tracking purposes while still maintaining the ability to expense to selected accounts?

Thanks,
-Phil

Create a distribution code which you could call ?master? that has a blank account and department and has tax tracking selected. If you use this distribution code on a new invoice detail, then you can select the GL account you want to expense to and have this amount included in the tax tracking report. Note that under the Company Profile/Tax Information section you can select to include on the tax tracking report either ?All Details? or ?Only details with distrib. codes?.

Is it possible to break out taxes for a blended payable amount that includes both GST and PST (using 'Tax Included Purchase')? Or is it recommended to creat 2 distributions (using tax type as 'Tax' for each) and enter the taxes separately after entering the subtotal amount? And when would I use the tax type 'Purchase'?

Thanks for helping to clear this up.
-Phil

Hi Phil,

The 'Tax included' distributions can only break out one jurisdiction, so if you require both GST and PST, then it is easier to set both up as 'tax' distributions.

Use the 'purchase' tax type if you want the purchase to show up on the Tax Tracking report (if the company profile is set to include only included details with distribution codes). If a purchase distribution code does not have Tax Tracking enabled, it will not appear on the report.
