I went into the financial reporter today and the screen that I got was nothing like I have ever gotten in the past. Usually, it shows my last balance sheet and income statement that I printed from the previous month. I went to open and the dialog box came up and was searching for "ALFinRep files" with GL!*.ccw and showed that there were no files in the directory. Then when I looked in Windows explorer I have the following files: GL#balsy.ccw and GL#lytd.ccw. I opened these up within the financial reporter but the formatting was all screwed up. Also, on shareholders equity the net <loss> is not accumulating in total shareholder equity and the net <loss> should have been a negative and it was a positive; I lost all my headings on the Comparative Analysis of Expenses - income tax basis. I did do a general ledger backup on March 22 and there was an error in posting and so I had to restore the March 22 backup (I don't know if this caused my current problem). Any idea what happened and what can be done to fix this. Thanks!!

Sherri

Hello Sherri,

When you restored your March 22 backup, did you restore all of the files?

All Ledger Financial Statements are stored in files that are prefixed with ?GL!?. I suggest that you check your backups again. You may be able to restore these files from an earlier backup.

Yes, i restored all of the files. Can you please tell me which files are required for financial reporter and then I will check to make sure that they are in the directory and if not, attempt to restore an earlier backup. Thanks!!

Hi Sherri,

All Financial Statements for Ledger are stored in files that start with ?GL!?.

I don't have any gl! files in my plus directory. Is there any way to tell from my backups whether a complete dataset backup was done versus ledger data because my last two backups were just ledger data and do not include any gl! files

Hello Sherri,

Whether you are backing up Ledger Data or the Complete Dataset, Adagio will backup files that start with GL and end with the data extension. A backup using Complete Dataset will contain all the files that were in the data location that end in the data extension.

If your last few backups do not have files that start with ?GL!?, you will need to go back to earlier backups.

I need to know exactly which "GL" files are used for the financial reporter so that I can determine what file was damaged or missing which has caused my financial reporting problems. My plus directory contains the "GL#bals*" and GL#Lytd*" files but a file must be missing or damaged because my financial reporter is still not correct. Thanks!!

Hello Sherri,

When you create a financial statement, you assign the name and the location of the file.

Financial statements should be stored in files that begin with ?GL!? and end in your data extension. Please have a look at Ledger sample data for an example. The person who creates the statement defines the file name.

When you choose File, Open, in Maintain Financial Reports, you can also change the 'Files of type' setting to all files. Hopefully, you will recognize your statement from the name of the file.

Hello Sherri:

Just to expand a bit on the Tech Support posting - sometimes people forget to begin their file names for the financial reporter with GL! and so they don't show up in the default list. As with most Windows 2000/XP programs, the financial reporter supports long file names, so you might have given the financial statements you created a different name.

Are you sure you're pointing to the correct directory?

Andrew, thank you so much for responding. Yes, I do know that I am pointing to the correct directory. And I named by balance statement "balsy" and my income statement "lytd" and they are both there. The weird thing is I went into financial reporter last week and normally (for the past year and a half) it automatically brings up the last months statement (either balsy or lytd") and the screen looked totally different this time and when I went to open a file it didn't find any there. I did search and found what i thought were the specs for the reports but when I pulled them up they didn't have the same formatting and they actually didn't show the net loss properly. So, I am really confused about what happened and what could have caused it. The only thing I know is that I had to restore my G/L from a backup but that shouldn't have caused problems with my financial reporter as I have done that before and never had this problem.
