I have having a problem closing the fiscal year. Our year end is Sept 30th, I have created the next fiscal year and budgets, closed the income/expense accounts, ran a batch status report and done everything I am suppsoed to do, but when I go into close current fiscal year it does not let me proceed because it says I must perform the close income/expense acct, but yet I have already done that and when I go to do it again it says it is already done. What am I doing wrong?

When you perform Close Income/Expense Accounts, make sure to select all departments - that is department "blank" through department "zzzzzz". It's possible you only closed some but not all departments.

If that's not the problem, then run Data Integrity Check - are there any errors?

No they are all closed I have already checked that, in fact I did each department separately, but I noticed just now that they are not closing to retained earnings. When I do a data integrity check it says "Warning fiscal year 2012 - ending date is more than 1 day from the start date of fiscal year 2013" What does that mean?

It would be hard to say for sure without seeing the data but about the only reason for Warning fiscal year 2012 - ending date is more than 1 day from the start date of fiscal year 2013" is because someone manually changed the fiscal calendar dates.

As for why you are unable to complete the year end successfully, again without seeing the data it's hard to tell. Sometimes the only way to solve these types of problems is to have an expert look.

Did you run a short or long fiscal year when your fiscal year end changed?

The problem's resolved. They'd been closing to individual departments one by one. When they changed their starting department range to 'blank' and ending range to as many z's as the field would take in the Close Income & Expense accounts window, the function ran as it should.

The fiscal calendar warning was valid and for a prior year. It didn't impede their ability to Close the current fiscal year.

They're happy.
