I am using GridView for a client to refresh a file used by an outside program. The program wants the file in CSV format, or alternatively in XLS format, but GridView is creating it in XLSX format.

I have a feeling there's a way to tell GridView what format to use when exporting with the /xdw parameter? Is there, or is there another parameter?

Thanks

Steve

I believe it's using the default file extension from Excel. Check your Excel settings.

Excel Options | Save | Save format.

Hi Andrew

I changed the setting as you described, and while saving files in Excel now defaults to .XLS, it doesn't change the file extension coming out of GridView. It's still .XLSX. I tried this on two computers with the same results.

Any other ideas?

Hi Steve:
There is a setting in GridView "Defaults" [F2] named "as table (Excel 2007 or later)". I don't think it's the solution but the help screen says "This field only displays if you are using Excel 2007 or later". That suggests that GV somehow detects the version of Excel in use and presumably uses that knowledge when deciding on the file format.

Hi Bruce

That's interesting but what I am looking for would be the opposite - a setting that forces GridView to use an XLS format no matter what version of Excel it detects.

There has to be a way to do this. I just need someone wiser than me to help me find it.

Install Excel 2003?

You can for GridView (or any Adagio module) to create the file in CSV format by changing a setting in SSI2XL.INI in \softrak\system. Details are here.

Hi Andrew

I followed your instructions for creating the SSI2XL.INI file and they worked. Too well, though. Now whenever they use the Direct Excel button in Adagio it sends the results to CSV. They want a CSV file only for this one GridView report.

What I plan on doing is creating a three line batch file - the first line swaps in the SSI2XL.INI file, the second line runs GridView and the third line swaps out SSI2XL.INI file.

I think this will work but is there a better way? If not, I would like to make a suggestion to create a GV runtime parameter that determines the format of the resulting exported file.

Steve
