Hi, I'm trying to set-up a GridView to open using the command line. Using the following command line:

S:\Softrak\GVWIN\GVWin.exe /uSYS p/sys /dS:\Softrak\DATA\VIK /eDAT /wS:\Softrak\DATA\VIK\REPORTS\Month End Reports and Gridviews\Month End Sales Report Data Using Sales Analysis.GV

I get the login window and after clicking yes, I get a "Failed to open document." error. I've open the file in GridView, copied the locations (double checked), and played with the spaces - nothing worked. Have I overlooked anything or does the command line have length restrictions?

Thanks

Hi Mike,

To start with, your path has spaces in it, as does the GridView view name. If either or bopth have spaces, you need to surround everything with double-quotes:

S:\Softrak\GVWIN\GVWin.exe /uSYS p/sys /dS:\Softrak\DATA\VIK /eDAT /w"S:\Softrak\DATA\VIK\REPORTS\Month End Reports and Gridviews\Month End Sales Report Data Using Sales Analysis.GV"

Without the quotes, it reads the path up to the space and was looking for a view called 'Month', which of course was not the intended consequence.

If this fails, then the next step is to try and shorten either the folder name or GV name or both.

Had already thought of that but it didn't work. Ok, then shorter directory/file names it is.

Thank you

(Actually, I think a batch file is the way to go. I'll see if that works better.)

Hi Mike,

If that is a direct copy of your command line, then the /p for the password parameter has the "/" in the wrong place.

Thanks Andrew, missed that.

Made the change but it didn't help. Back to the drawing board.

Talked to Bruce and resolved the issue. Have to save the view as a workspace (gvs) and then use quotes in the command line.

S:\Softrak\GVWIN\GVWin.exe /uSYS /psys /dS:\Softrak\DATA\VIK /eDAT /w"S:\Softrak\DATA\VIK\REPORTS\Month End Reports and Gridviews\Month End Sales Report Data Using Sales Analysis.GVS"

Works fine now. Thanks Bruce
