If you wanted to take advantage of the increased power of Crystal Reports for Adagio, above the older Quik Reports for Windows, you are not required to switch other applications. Both products use the same report tables to read the same database.

All of your existing reports that were created with QRW will continue to work with Crystal Reports for Adagio.

You do not require a LanPak licence to run Crystal Reports for Adagio. If you want to have 2 or more people have access to the report designer (ie write reports), then a second copy of the program must be purchased. If you want to have 2 or more people to be able to print reports (and not write them) then you can use a utility called PrintTool that is included with Crystal Reports for Adagio. In this latter case with PrintTool, you only require a LanPak licence if people are printing reports 'simultaneously', rather than one at a time.

You are right. CrystalDecisions changed their license requirements on Crystal Reports, requiring us to sell multiple copies. This is why we created PrintTool.

If I understand correctly, we have to buy the whole package twice if we want to have 2 people designing reports at the same time. Yes, sorry.

Can you give me a cost for this and is there any sort of credit for customers who already puchased QRW?

Sorry, I'm at home and don't have my price list at hand. I believe Crystal Reports for Adagio is $1350 CAD/$950 USD per copy. Crystal Reports for Adagio is built on Crystal Reports V8.5 - this has many features for querying a user for parameters that were not available in Crystal Reports V4.0 (QRW). You may find that access to the designer is less necessary.

You can install it on a network.

2) Is there a demo available to try it out? Sorry, no. However, your Softrak Partner should be able to show you the product and address any concerns you might have.

3) If we have to purchase a lanpak for more that one person to be able to print at a time, what is the cost of this lanpak and how many users does each lanpak allow to print at any one time?

Each person printing consumes one lanpak unit while they are printing. Lanpak units are sold in 2, 5, 10 and 20 and are cumulative. A 2 unit lanpak is $700/$500 CAD/USD and the unit prices drop the more you buy. There is no annual maintenance on Lanpak units.

Now that I'm back in the office, I should clarify a point I mistakenly made in my post above. While it is technically possible to install Crsytal on you network drive, this is really just a convenience for installing it on the local workstations. Crystal requires registry entries and workstation DLL's to be available, so the recommended installation is to the user's workstation.
