Hello,

I'm trying to build reports in Crystal Reports for Adagio and I'm having difficulty understanding the database layout and where to find the fields I require. Are there any resources that will let me easily identify what tables are in each database and what the tables contain?

I'm running the following versions.

GL 9.0D
AR 9.0C
AP 8.1D
AI 9.0B

Hello Ryan:
Building reports in Crystal Reports requires 2 types of knowledge: i) how to use Crystal itself and ii) the structure of the Adagio database. If someone starts without knowledge of at least one of those areas, I usually suggest speaking with their dealer to get over the initial hump.

On the other hand, if you have Crystal expertise already, then you can make use of an Adagio utility to generate Data Dictionaries. Look in the X:\Softrak\System folder (where X: represents the driver letter where Adagio is installed). You will see DataDictionaryExporter.exe. You should also see DDExporter.PDF which gives a nice and short explanation of how the utility works. Running the utility and following the instructions will generate an Excel workbook for each module in which you are interested.

Hi Bruce

There is a third type of knowledge I always mention when asked this question, and that is how to design a report properly. You can memorize the Crystal Reports manual and know how all of the Adagio tables are laid out, but if you don't understand how report design works (with sorts, filters, subtotals, drilldowns, etc), your report will not fulfill its purpose.

That's true. There's a difference between a report and a useful and effective report.

Hi,

I just looked for the datadictionaryexporter.exe file and can't find it. I met with my Adagio consultant last week and he gave me a files with the Adagio database structure but what he gave me and what I see don't match up. Some of the tables he has listed in the GL, AR and AP databases I either don't have or am missing for some reason.

Any other suggestions.

The Exporter is installed with Adagio GridView and Adagio ODBC. Perhaps it should be installed by Crystal Reports for Adagio as well. Send me an email and I will send it to you.

The names displayed in the DataDictionary Exporter are those used in the Adagio Grid Editor, Adagio GridView and Adagio ODBC (using the /ODBC command line parameter). The names in the Crystal Reports for Adagio tables are slightly different for historical reasons, but the field ordering in the unsorted list is the same.
