In Inventory, under the Units tab of Item Maintenance, there is a field called "UPC code". It is really just a text field; I can tell because it doesn't check that the entry is a valid UPC code.

A client uses item codes that are different from UPC codes, but which cross-reference on a one-to-one basis. The codes are already printed as bar codes on the items they purchase and sell.

They would like to be able to scan the bar code and have Adagio pull up the correct item, whether it be in Inventory, Order Entry, or Purchase Orders.

Is there any way to accomplish this, either using the UPC code field above, or some other field?

Steve

I’m not aware of any 3rd party product that will make Adagio barcode aware. Of course you can place your cursor in the item field and scan, but it’s going to display the barcode, not the item code. There is no cross referencing of barcodes to items, despite the UPC field in the item record.

It would require significant effort to support barcodes within Adagio. Think of all the places where you’d like to scan a barcode. Taking it a step further, how about barcodes for looking up documents or printing barcodes on picking slips and orders?

ePack for Adagio does maintain barcodes, print labels and scan items to be packed, but all within that product. Item inquiry is supported. For example, you can open item inquiry, scan a barcode and view the item. There can be multiple barcodes per item, item barcodes specific to a customer/vendor and support for a variety of barcode types.

CounterSales, POTracker, JobTracker, SerialTracker LablePrint and LotTracker all make use of the barcode cross reference table available in IMS products. The table supports multiple items per barcode and multiple barcodes per item. It is common to all IMS applications and could easily be accessed by Adagio. The item finder in Adagio is probably common to OE IC PO etc, a small change to it to access the IMS barcode cross reference table prior to looking up an item would be all it would take. If the finder locates the barcode in the cross reference table the application uses the associated item otherwise it proceeds to normal finder operation. One to one lookup for the most part would satisfy 90% of the situations. Adagio supports IMS tables in GridView so technically it should be a small development investment. One data file, all applications supported.

Another option would be to print inventory item numbers as barcodes. This would allow scanning the inventory item in any Adagio sales invoicing or receiving module, Order Entry Adagio Invoices, JobCost, anything. LabelPrint form IMS can now print labels with a barcode representation of the inventory item in Adagio Inventory. LabelPrint can now use the Inventory History file to print labels for the quantity of items received in any Adagio Receipting application. Inventory Control, Purchase Orders for Adagio or Adagio Purchase Orders.

Let me ask responders to please read my original question, especially:

A client uses item codes that are different from UPC codes, but which cross-reference on a one-to-one basis. The codes are already printed as bar codes on the items they purchase and sell.

Also:

They would like to be able to scan the bar code and have Adagio pull up the correct item, whether it be in Inventory, Order Entry, or Purchase Orders.

Thanks

Steve

I'm sure it's been considered but I haven't seen it mentioned: Change the Item codes to match the UPCs?

Hi Steve,

Only Softrak is in a position to do this, and as your post points out, it requires update to Inventory, OrderEntry, PurchaseOrders, Invoices, SalesCQ and SalesAnalysis.

No small task.
