Hello,

Is there any (safe) way of remotely kicking users out of Adagio? When we are doing a day-end or a complete backup, chasing down users, particularly salespeople, can be ... painful.

Thank you,

The short answer is "No".

The current release of GridView lists all the current users of Adagio, their workstations, and the modules/databases they are in if you are logged in as user SYS. This might help track down those users.

Figured. Remote access app that they can't disable or uninstall would be a good option.

Sorry, you'll need to clarify. If they are using Remote Desktop, then you can see what files they have open and whether there is any activity and decide what the risk is in "booting them off". Generally, people do not go home in the middle of entering an order or a batch.

We have contemplated having a setting in an Adagio module that shuts the application down after so many minute of inactivity, but there are still issues around that.

Not remote desktop. An application similar to TightVNC, team viewer, remotely anywhere ... forced desktop access.

You'd be surprised. I've had users head home with their PCs still powered up and logged into Adagio mid order.

Policy enforcement apparently does not apply on Fridays.

Well, mid order would be a problem to shut down. There are questions to answer when an order is saved.

Presumably, forcing out a user that results in loss of data or a database error is considered a "bad thing".

Yeah, that's where the desktop access would come into play. From my workstation, take control, post order, close, change users password, get panicked message, lesson learned ... in theory.

My solution was to create a utility that's scheduled to run at 2am. If there are users still in Adagio, the utility emails that information to select people, including the manager. After a few of those emails, they learn to exit their Adagio apps. Safer than booting them out. Let me know, if it's something that would work for you.

Yeah, I have an automated service running that sends reminders, but it doesn't always catch their attention, nor the managers. I'd thought about adding an SMS relay to spam their phones ... smile

Hi,
We're testing a shareware utility that we found that will allow you to terminate the user sessions, for off-line processing at night. Agree with Andrew, that closing open sessions could have serious implications such as in mid orders. Our situation was more for running our unattended FX scripts, that required users to be out of FX before doing data refreshes.
Contact us if you need more details.
Best,
Brian
