When I close Financial Reporter it seems to hang. After several minutes it comes up with the not responding message and asks if I'd like to 'end now' which I say yes to. I then get the closed in error message "would I like to send a report" which I say yes to and it seems to create something and send it. Any thoughts on why this would be happening. It happens every time I exit Financial reporter. And where is the error report going?

Hi SuzBem

Sometimes it does take a while to close the Financial Reporter, and it appears to be hanging, but eventually it closes. But several minutes is very unusual, I have a feeling there is a question it is asking you which you can't see, hidden behind another screen. Press Alt-Tab (a few times if necessary) to see if such a question appears.

In any case, don't say Yes to "would I like to send a report". That's a Microsoft question and you can be sure the folks at Microsoft don't care that you had to exit Adagio's Financial Reporter ungracefully.

I wish it were that simple. I've had this happen each and every time for the past few months. If I open task manager it tells me almost immediately the program is not responding. And I've looked for a hidden screen. Typically I save and close my reports before I go to exit. And I realize what you are saying about the MS report so I won't hit send anymore. Out of curiosity I followed the error message file and the message is below:

"Not responding" is an almost meaningless Microsoft message. It just means that there is a mouse click or keypress that the program has not gotten around to processing. You can generate this message in almost every Windows application without too much difficulty.

Are you printing a statement group? Using ePrint? If you just give the fninacial reporter some time - move on to something else without worrying about whether it closes (perhaps checking this Forum for example), does the financial reporter eventually close? 1 or 2 minutes seems like a long time if you're just staring at a screen.

Does it ALWAYS fail to close, or just when you've opened a particular statement? Or perhaps when you've drilled down to a detailed transaction? Or only when you've actually printed a statement?

While it's annoying, I doubt that there's any particular cause for concern, and only you can decide whether its worth the effort to try and determine what's going on.

Ok - the message doesn't help. As for printing a statement group or eprint, no. I often pull up a report, change the date and send it to excel. Once the excel transfer is done, I will save the report and close it. Then I try to close the financial reporter and it freezes. I've left it for 15 minutes or longer with the same result. And yes, it ALWAYS fails to close. Even if I just look and save without using excel or printing.

I was just curious if someone else had this problem or what might be causing it.

Hi SuzBem,

If you ZIP up your general ledger and send it to me with the name of the spec that's causing the problem, I'll see if I can recreate it here. If you do not ExcelDirect the statement, do you still have the problem?

Also, what version of Ledger (See Help | About) are you running?

Hi Andrew,

If I just open Financial reporter and then close it,it closes correctly. It seems to be the excel piece. I'm on version 9.0D (111017)

OK - and what version of Excel? And how much memory do you have in your workstation? And would you like to send me the data to see if we get the same result here?

OK - I'll take a look when it arrives. Unless your gl is gargantuan, there shouldn't be a problem. I have seen it take a while for Excel to unload, and this might be causing the delay you see.

Hello,

I have a client currently experiencing problem closing.

If the financial reporter is opened and immediately closed with no statement actually being opened, the financial reporter closes quickly and without a problem.

However if a statement is simply opened and the financial reporter is closed, it hangs up 100% of the time. Sometimes it will close after 4 or 5 minutes of a "not responding" window. Other times the user must use task manager to close.

Client using Windows Server 2008 Enterprise, Cat5E cable with network running at 100Mps despite GB switches.

Workstation is XP with 3.25 GB or Ram

Ledger Version 9.0D(111017)

What does the Task Manager show LedgerFinRep doing?

Does the same thing happen with a copy of their data on:
1) A local Drive
2) On your office machine/laptop

HI Michael,

Further testing today actually determined the following:

- Financial reporter froze (or at least closed VERY slowly) 100% of the time when accessing data on the server (regardless of if a statement was opened or not)
- Financial reporter closed very quickly when the data was run on either a local workstation drive or mine workstation in my office
- task manager showed activity for the financial reporter during the extended closes.

Time to ask their "network guy" why that NIC is running at only 100Mbps.

Also check their OpLocks settings and try running from another workstation where the network speed is better. There's a hardware/configuration problem.

Aren't they complaining about other performance issues on that workstation?

Inconsistent info here..
1) If the financial reporter is opened and immediately closed with no statement actually being opened, the financial reporter closes quickly and without a problem
2) Financial reporter froze (or at least closed VERY slowly) 100% of the time when accessing data on the server (regardless of if a statement was opened or not)

Does other computers on their network exhibit the same problem?

In any case I would suggest they get rid of the XP machine and get their network running at 1 GIG not 100 Mbps.

Hi Andrew
I have also had issues with FinReporter not closing without error for a few months. Under the advice of my local Adagio rep I have tried many different scenarios to troubleshoot:

First Round:
- In ledger I tried going to FILE->USER PREFERENCES to reverse the “Save Windows Position” and “Save Window Size settings”.
- In FinReporter I went to VIEW->CUSTOMIZE and reset each of the toolbars and views.
- In Ledger went to FILE->USER PREFERENCES and turned the “Save Windows Position” and “Save Window Size settings” on (tick the boxes).
- I opened the FinReporter and then sized the window really small, closed the FR with the X. There was no other dialogue window opening in the background.

Does it do it on another workstation? YES
Does it do it with another log in name? YES

Second Round:
He suggested I copy my GL data to my desktop. Did so and FR shutdown without error when:
- I did not open any reports
- I opened reports and closed them individually before shutting the FR
- I opened a report & shutdown FR without closing reports individually (either using the 'x' or File - Close)

I have 3 sets of company books on the same network drive and this error issues is only happening when accessing this one particular set of data.

What could be causing this problem on the server for anyone trying to access one set of GL books only?

Thanks in advance, Sadie

If the Financial Reporter is having problems on Opening/Closing and the GLATREE.??? ( ??? being your data selector ) is gretaer than 200K bytes or so then delete the file.

In fact it is always safe to delete the GLATREE file as it will be recreated with the default settings when you open the Financial Reporter.

GLATREE contains the information shown in View | Accoubt Data or CTRL+F when in the Financial Reporter

Hello everyone, I did exactly that - I removed the GLATREE file from my data set and I no longer had any issues closing the Financial Reporter, whether I have reports opened or not it closed quickly and without error.

thank you Michael!!
