IC Pricing Structure

Our inventory items are set up with the pricing structure of discount on cost by % determined by customer type.
We sell gloves by singles, dozens and cases. If we change the discount to discount on cost based on amount sold (so we can sell 1, 12 or 144), we lose the customer type discounts. If we create an alternate price list for the customer discounts for these items, that works, but my questions is: when price changes occur in the original inventory record, are the price changes transferred automatically to the alternate price list item so the discount there is based on the new price?
I must be overlooking something.

Hi CRR,
Do you mean 'Discount on Base Price' or 'Markup on cost'? There is no option to 'discount on cost' for OrderEntry sales of Inventory items.
If the 'Markup cost' on the Alternate Price List item is 0.00, then the markup pricing structure is based on the Most Recent Cost of the main item. This is if you use the Markup on Cost method on the alternate price lsit items.
A base price is stored on Alternate Price List items, which is what the 'Discount on Base Price' uses. This is completely independant to the item itself. Thus if you edit the Base Price on the item, it will not affect the Alternate Price List item. What you need to do is update the Alternate Price List with the new Base Prices with one of two methods: - Update Alternate Price List, found on the Edit / Alternate Price Lists menu in Inventory. After the Original base prices have been changed, use this prices to update from the Original Price List and an Amount Increase of 0.00. - Import alternate Price List items, found on the File / Import menu. You can choose to import just the Price List code, Item code and new Base Price from a 3-column Excel spreadsheet, updating existing records.

Hello CRR, You should be coming to the Adagio Opportunity Conference next month where there's an entire session devoted to Inventory Costing and Pricing.

Sorry, I meant "discount on base price" as far as most of our inventory items are set up.
So, just so I understand correctly. In the alternate price list, if I use "markup cost" , OE uses the most recent cost from the main IC to create the price for each order. I don't have to do anything in the alternate price list if the cost changes. The new price charged to the customer will happen automatically.
If I use discount on base price in the alternative price list to create prices, I have to go in and update the alternative base price every time I change prices in IC. (I assume I could do this daily and it would update ALL changes made since I last updated, so it could be pretty fast and all encompassing.)
I am trying to make this more or less automatic so we don't "forget" to change customer's prices.
Also, in order to use either "discount on price" or "markup cost" in the alternative price list, is is true that each customer who has a price list code must also be customer type A, B, C, D or E?
Thanks for the clarification.
Chris
