We need to find the simplest way in OE/IC to "upsell" items to our customers. Essentially we would like to sell a regular I/C item at a reduced price, while tracking sales of those upsell items. Another company I worked for used an alternate code for those items, while the system pulled inventory stock from the original item#. I have considered making an assembly item for each, but assembling each time would be too cumbersome. I also considered setting up a new item code and enabling the original item as the alternate item number, so that stock of the upsell item would always be at 0, and pull from stock of the original. If anyone has experience with the best way to set up and manage this that would be appreciated.

Hi Kristin

I think you are assuming we know what you mean by "upsell" and how it differs from "selling a regular I/C item at a reduced price". Can you give explain the process in more detail, possibly giving us an example to follow?

Thanks Steve, what I am describing is selling additional items to customers placing phone orders, typically offered at the end of the call, at a special sale price if added to that current order. We want our sales/service phone reps to have a list of items they can offer customers a discount on, and track the sales of these by somehow designating these items as different from a normal purchase.

Hi Kristin,

One idea could be to create an Alternate Price List code 'UPSELL' and create alternative price list items with the respective 'special sale prices'. If the phone rep gets someone to buy an additional item as part of that upselling process, they could add the item to the order, and from the Edit Detail screen select 'UPSELL' from the price list code field. That would load the different price.

Additionally, you could create a report or inquiry that loads only order details with 'UPSELL' as a price list code.

Thanks very much, that could work well. Any thoughts on the best way to inquire or report on those Upsell order details? We have Crystal reports, Sales Analysis and of course OE & IC. Thank you again.

If you have SalesAnalysis, I suspect that would be the best place to base the report/inquiry. Crystal Reports or GridView could be used, with a filter on the Price List code to only select the UPSELL items. Or you could do an Online Inquiry directly in SalesAnalysis with a similar filter.

It all depends on the information you want to glean from the data.
