I am importing an Excel 2003 file into AI 9.0B (111102) and I receive a message Error code:1001 on ToXLCreateEx. Any ideas?

The same file layout has been successfully imported many times. Visually the Excel file seems 100% ok.

I am sort of answering my own post. It is really an elaboration of my previous post. Before making the first post, I searched this forum and did not find any previous mention of this problem. Then I went to Google and Google directed me to previous threads on this topic on this forum. In those threads, Softrak asked the following questions, which I will answer.

Is this the full message?
YES. Error code:1001 on ToXLCreateEx

Do you also get asked to save the file? And, if so, have you?
NO. The import terminates with that message

What version of Excel are you using?
2003

Is it run off of the server or locally?
Terminal Server

Does your Excel sheet contain any formulas that reference other sheets or workbooks?
NO

Are all the values in the Excel sheet raw values (numbers and text)?
YES

Is the Excel file open?
NO

Is Excel open?
NO

Do you get any Validation errors during the import?
NO, because it never starts the validation. This message appears first and then it's game over.

What is the sequence of events for error messages after you click the Import button?
The error message appears immediately on clicking on Import.

We had one report where the same error appeared, but the problem was that an invalid value was attempted to be imported. When the Excel file was corrected to contain correct information, the error went away.

My file has over 800 rows. I deleted all rows but one. Same problem. I tried randomly with other single rows. Same problem, even with single row Excel import files. It is a very simple file (not many fields) and visually, this Excel sheet looks identical to others that have imported correctly in the past.

In the \softrak\system directory, look for a file named SSI2XL.DLL. If you check the Properties (right-click), what is the version of the file?
1.11.21.325

Hi Brian,

Using the current version of Adagio Invoices (9.0B) and sample data, I am able to successfully import the sample QIINVIM7.XLS file (using the 'format 7 layout'). The current SSI2XL.DLL is what you quoted and what I have. All this means is that there is no generic problem with importing Excel invoice batches.

Could you confirm whether this works for you as well? To set up sample data, first load the 'Invoices 7 - legacy format' template, then change the import file type from CSV to Excel, and change the file name ot QIINVIM7.XLS.

If this works for you, then the problem is likely not install/program related but rather something in the template setup or the Excel file or a mismatch between the two. If it doesn't work, then there is something incorrect in the installation or setup, or the Terminal Server environment is preventing something - you can cease attempting to test with the existing file and eliminating rows.

Error 1001 from ToXLCreat means "Insufficient Memory".
For some reason SSI2XL was not able to allocate the required memory.

We had a problem like this a while back where a sheet we had been importing for years gave this or a similar error. As I recall we resolved it copying the cells were were using to a new worksheet and overwriting the original. Apparently there was something in the worksheet's empty cells that had been causing the problem.
