I am having a real hard time when I am trying to work in Adagio T&B and printing or trying to work in another program. Adagio is really using a lot of my system resources. It has gotten so bad that my other devices are locking up because there are not enough system resources to run them. Any ideas?

Hi Sherri,

There are 2 places I would suggest looking at to start.

1) Do you have anti-virus software running in the background, in 'auto-protect' mode? With accounting software that utilize multiple data files, performance can degrade quite severely when programs such as Norton Anti-Virus are checking everything. You may be able to exclude checking the program and data directories, yet keep it running for other places.

2) What sort of network connection do you have? If you've got 10Mb hubs and cards, that might not be enough based on the amount of data transfer required for your system. We would recommend 100Mb hubs/cards if possible.

Adagio Time & Billing on it's own will not hog resources to the point where other applications cannot run efficiently. Most likely it in combination with something else where the loss of resources is occuring.

Regards,

I do not have norton anti-virus installed on my computer.

Also, this is a stand alone lap top computer.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!!

Dear Holquist

So, your notebook is not attached to the Network while you are noticing the system resource problem?

What other applications are running in the background? Outlook? Internet Explorer or Netscape?

By process of elimination, you can try a few tests:
Exit out of all running applications, then start Time&Billing and work in it for awhile to see how it goes. If this works successfully, try adding one of your regulary running applications to see what happens. Continue in this way until you notice the sluggishness.

What is the notebook configuration? How much RAM? What is the speed of the processor? What version of Windows is being used? How big a hard drive is it and how full is it? When was the last time you did a defrag of it and/or removed programs and/or files that are no longer used? (Regular HDD maintenance is important from time to time to remove 'spaces' and put the files back in logical sequence.)

Also - how print jobs are sent to the printer can effect performance, check the settings to ensure that when you print - your system is freed up as fast as possible. Often, a certain portion of the print job will go to memory to free up the process. You can 'Print directly to printer' or 'Spool print jobs' Spooling normally is the one you would want to select.

Hope this helps.

(We have had no other reports of this being a problem - even in a network environment.)

Regards
