Anyone out there running Adagio thru Windows Server 2008 Domain controller? Way too many changes happened at the same time on Microsoft’s insistence, like Exchange Server, Domain Controller, SQL Server and Virtualization all at once.
We kept the Adagio server untouched running on 2003 Server. For some reason now we are running Adagio via 2008 Domain controller. Now we see issues that I have not been able to explain - so don't ask. One issue I CAN explain is files (AR, OE and IC) remaining open, even after the users are out of the application. One way to close these open files is to reboot the offending work station. Sorry for the long rant..

Hi Yogi,

Could you explain what you mean by "running through"? Adagio runs on a workstation.

Hmm... that has happened to me as well with AR. I thought it was just some workstations acting up. Once we rebooted the workstation, things are fine.

However, don't ask me what Domain controller we are on. That is why I have an IT dept. (thank goodness)

Are there any Vista workstations? Have you used the Set Server 2008 utility from our website? Perhaps opportunistic locking is still enabled on the server.

Andrew, you know what I mean...still here it goes..

"The domain controllers in your network are the centerpiece of your Active Directory directory service. It stores user account information, authenticates users and enforces security policy for a Windows domain."

So the Domain controller is Windows 2008 Server and Adagio Server is running Windows Server 2003.

We do not have to run "Setserver" on a domain controller - I think. (Server experts are welcome to chime in".

However the Windows Server 2003 on which ASP and Data Directories resides , do have "checksys" utility run at the server level.

There are no Vista work stations. All are XP Prof.

Hi Yogi,

I have a small user who has been running GL/AR/AP on a 2008 Server for about 4 months and has not reported any problems. Just finished (about 2 hours ago) migrating a larger (but still not too large) user to 2008 Server SBS but too early to know the results - yo've got me worried now...

However, both of the above use 2008 Server completely as opposed to a 2008 Domain with a 2003 Server as a member server on that Domain which is what you're describing. OK, so I guess that did not help at all ...

Pete

I have a client who just asked me exactly the same question as the topic of this thread. I don't see a meaningful answer in here.

It's been almost two years since the question was asked. Can someone attempt to answer the question again?

Thanks

Steve

Sorry Steve. I'm not sure what the question is.

Since the actual question has not been clarified, I'll answer two of the ways it has been interpreted here.

Adagio will run fine on one server, if another server is acting as the domain server for the Windows network.

Adagio will run fine on a server that is acting as a domain controller.

Actually, Adagio will run fine with any properly configured Windows server. The server is simply a repository of the data. All application processing is done on the workstation, and data is accessed through the network. There are no Adagio processes running on the server.

Microsoft tends to suggest a separate machine for each of their server products. We have not found this to be necessary (although we generally do not recommend trying to run multiple virtual servers on a single machine unless it is a rocket ship built for the purpose).

Edit Reason: Clarify architecture.
