Using IC 8.1C (101224)

Request from our Purchaser:

Will Softrak consider adding the Average Unit Cost to the EDIT ITEM window in IC?

After receiving a PO we are forced to open two IC's at the same time and flip back and forth (or view side by side) so that we can use one to view the Avg Unit Cost in Item Inquiry and the other to update the Base Price and Standard Cost in Edit Item.

We need the Avg Unit Cost to calculate the Base Price and Standard Cost.

Hi Susan,

You do know that there is an automated function to recalculate the Base Price based on the Average Cost or Most Recent Cost?

I wasn't aware of that. Where is it? I'd like to look at it.

It is unlikely that it will work as total solution for us since we have to calculate the standard cost as well which is also based on the avg unit cost. Our mark up from Avg Unit Cost is not the same across the board. It is dependant on many factors. We update both the standard cost and base price as we receive new product based on the avg unit cost.

The automated function you mentioned might be useful however as a tool to confirm whether we've missed anything.

Hi Susan,

One function is the Update Price List, and it can be found from the Edit menu and the Item Maintenance flyout. Though the 2 methods for updating the Base Price here (by a markup % or margin) are both based on the Standard Cost.

There is a Markup method of alternative pricing, either on the Master Item or an Alternative Price List item. These automatically markup over either the Standard Cost or Most Recent Cost. Not the Average Unit Cost, however.

A GridView view could be created to list the Base Price, Avg Unit Cost, Standard Cost etc - not only to check which items may have been missed, but also to export to Excel, do the calculations there, and re-import the Base Price (and Standard Cost) to update the items.

Hi Susan,

Re-reading this post, I realized my answer makes it sound like we won't entertain the suggestion. Sorry about that. It's been added to the list. However, these numbers are on different tabs, and the Edit Item dialog is modal (it cannot be opened with another form). I don't think that having the information on the tab will improve things very much. You'll want one instance open to edit the item price, and another instance to View the costing information.

I just wondered whether the manual calculation you were doing might not be faster using Update prices.

Edit Reason: Modal dialog.
