Our Client just upgraded AP to 8.1C and GL to 9.0C 110131. When opening a file printed to Excel from Detail Listing, an error comes up and it doesn't print further than 16383 lines. I was able to recreated the error in-house. Operating System XP and Excel 2007. All my modules are up to date.

When printing to Excel from AP, the excel file produces the same error when opened: File Error: Data may have been lost but it contains all the information since it is a smaller file.

The problem is that, for compatibility, Adagio uses an older Excel format that only supports 16,383 lines. Newer versions of Excel open the older files, but not the other way around.

The solution is to export the fields you want to CSV format. You will have to set formatting for some columns, but there is no row limit.

What format did you select for the Excel export of the GL Detail Listing report?

Why are you exporting the GL Detail Listing Report? There's an ExcelDirect button on the View Transactions / Budgets Grid.

Or, used the attached financial statement to select any set of accounts and departments and drill down to see the transactions and send them to Excel. You can choose the columns that get sent under the View | Customize | Settings tab in the financial reporter.

Our client has been printing the Detail listing to Excel for the Auditors/Accountants. According to her, It stopped working after upgrading. She already had Excel 2007. I thought I was able to print to up to 32000 lines before but I am not 100% sure.

What format did you select for the Excel export? There are many of them. I found that Excel 7 (not extended) seems to work the best.

BUT

Your client should see if their accountants/auditors are using Caseware. If so, then it's WAY easier to just send them a backup ZIP of the GL and have them retrieve the data directly into the tool they are using.

I have confirmed that the issue happened also before the upgrades. For this particular case, instead of printing the Detail Listing to an Excel file, our client may be able to export GL transactions instead.

There are other reports such as an Inventory Valuation report where you cannot use Excel Direct and you cannot either export the same results. Any suggestions?

You can export the Inventory Transactions from the transaction tab on the item inquiry. Crystal Reports is not a general purpose export tool. There is not enough information in a report to properly format the columns.

Can you please find out from your client WHY they are looking to export this information and where we might add an export template or ExcelDirect button to more properly meet their needs.
