Hi All,
I am working on a project where the end result needs to be an Excel file with Order Details from OE. So there are two strategies, either modifying a Crystal Report to get the information and using the Export function to Excel OR, and what the programmer really would like, is to be able to query the tables externally to pull the information needed. Does anyone know of an interface that exists like SQL that can be used by the programmer to parse that data? If one does not exist maybe someone has a better method for getting that output file...?
Thanks.

I think we're going to go with purchasing the ODBC module to create a DSN. Can anyone think of disadvantages to this?

GridView can be setup to extract data from Adagio into Excel as an automated process.

GridView + Indicee ( http://www.indicee.com/ )can get data into a SQL database on the Web that can be easily queried.

I have seen issues with ODBC when used to connect to SQL as a Linked Server. Excel & MS Access with an DSN connection seem to have fewer issues.

The most appropriate tool to use really depends on the overall project. The Stief Group would be a great resource in making a choice for which method to use to get at the OE data.

Hi GeorgeandLaura

Definitely GridView is the way to go. When you use GridView's /xdw parameter, it will automatically create an Excel file with the details you want, in a specified location and name.

ODBC is much more work to setup, and depending on what other modules you are using, GridView has many other purposes.

Grid View IS the way to go. It's working well for what we need. Thanks for everyone's input.
