Hi All,

I have a clearing account set up in the GL that has both US and CDN running through it.

The USD source balance and the and home balance are very different though. I would have suspected on a $100 source balance, the home balance (cdn$) would be ~$105.

This is where is gets wierd. My US Source beginning balance is $101,021.53, and my US home balance is $1,203,419.33 - about 10x more.

How could the source balance and home balance be that far off?

I've done a DIC and it's clean.

Thanks!

When was the last time the two balances were reasonable? Now track from there and see if there is a single entry that accounts for this issue.

I thought you were on vacation Doug?!

I'm actually pulling this report from an old year end backup of the GL. It's coming up because of an audit and the auditor had questions about why the two amounts didn't agree.

It seems that the home balance has always been higher by about $1.1M.

How could one get so much higher? Is it possible that we had one transaction in at a very high exchange rate?

Vacation; Be and returned but leaving again.

More than likley at some point in the past there was a serious data entry error that was either not caught or not corrected properly.

If you don't see some offsetting entry that nets this out to an appropriate amount then I can offer to have a look and see if I can see something. If there is an offsetting entry then it sounds like it was not made correctly. Without seeing the data it would be difficult to suggest what the correct fix would be.

Ok, thanks Doug. We should be fine, but let me check with the auditor. If he wants to go into it further i'll give you a call to look at the data.

Perfect job for GridView pointing at G/L Posted Detail file. You could quickly examine the Exchange Rates to find anything unusual.
