The results you posted are likely indicative of the second possibility I previously posted. Thanks for the update.
If you used Windows Explorer to look in the directory where your data is stored, do you see any files such as API0001D or API0001H? If so, then these 'orphaned batch files' got in the way of creating batch #1 - they should not exist if you don't see the respective batch number (1 in this example) when editing Invoice batches. I suspect that you will see files like this numbered 1 to 5, which is why the first batch created was #6.
Your options are to continue as you are and know that the first batch for this year is #6. The only action is to remove any extra files from the data directory - you may want assistance from your Adagio consultant if this is the case.
Or restore your data from just after doing Year End, then remove the same files as above, then create your first batch.
