Dear Daphne

The Error 533 is a fairly generic message and in each case has appeared when printing a certain report.

Here are some suggestions...
1. Try doing a Data Integrity Check. If errors are found, click the Rebuild button and then repeat the DIC to see if they could be repaired, then try printing the report again.

If this does not help,
2. Using Windows Explorer, open the folder that contains your Invoices data & look for any batch files that have '0' bytes. In QIWIN and Adagio Invoices, the files you are looking for have the format 'QIB9999I.xxx' & 'QIB9999R.xxx', where 9999 represents a batch number and xxx stands for your 3-character data file extension. If these files have a size of 0 KB, then this could be the problem.

Normally, these files will not be from a batch that currently exists in QIWIN/IN, but from a previous batch that for some reason has either not been cleared out, or was put there during a restore of a backup at some point. It should be safe to remove these two files. If you want to be sure, go into QIWIN/IN and make a note of the batch number(s) of any existing batch(es). The filename that you need to remove should NOT have the same batch number in it's syntax.

For example, if you have existing batch number 235 in QIWIN/IN, you do not want to remove batch files that are named QIB0235I.xxx or QIB0235R.xxx (they should have a size greater than 0 anyway)! Only batch files that have '0' bytes.

Good luck!

Hello Daphne

The issues we have covered have been the most common occurences of this error, however there has been the 'odd' one reported that was due (in a nutshell) to trying to run a very old product on a very new environment (i.e. untested).

Have you recently upgraded your Windows version, or bought a new PC that comes with a newer version of Windows and installed QIWIN on it?

If not, has anything else changed since you first installed QIWIN that may have caused it to stop running as expected?

If QIWIN was installed on a network Server, and you got a new station - did you run the workstation setup? If you did run the wksetup - did you (the User you log into the network as) have full Admin rights to install software when doing so?

The printing of reports relies on a successful program install (if it is installed 'standalone') and if the program is installed on a Server, then successful completion of the worksation setup.

For more troubleshooting, it would be very helpful to have a bit of history about your setup, if the above information is not helpful.

Regards,

I searched the BB for a similar problem I had over a year ago and came up with the reference below.

http://www.softrak.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=send_topic&t=000406&f=1

Originally, everything was working fine and then for some reason the problem cropped up and wouldn't go away no matter what other machines was tested, and there were several. It problem was also limited to reports as opposed to statement printing. Go figure!

The problem was never resolved until the program was update to Version 6.8A.

Hello Daphne

As an update, yesterday a Dealer called us with this very same error, and similar story. DIC was clean, no 'stray' or 0 byte batch files in the data directory etc. The problem only occurred when trying to print some reports, although I do not yet have information on whether or not ALL reports were affected or not, the batch listing and batch status report did exhibit the same problem.

The only machine affected was the new station, which was purchased with the pre-installed Windows XP. This particular issue surfaced with Quik Check for Windows V6.5A - another older (16-bit) version.

The Dealer did some testing on his own Windows XP laptop and got the same problem after installing the older product. He did not have any problem with the currently shipping, version 6.8A (Adagio Checks).

His comment was basically this: I want to save my client money, so instead of spending hours trying to get the old version to work (which likely will not happen), I suggested they purchase the upgrade to the new product...it works.

You can get more information on Adagio Invoices by visiting the Products page on our website (click on the link) - if you would like pricing and upgrade information, please feel free to contact our Customer Service Department by email: customerservice@softrak.com , or by calling (604) 736-3741.

As a small footnote, I personally don't know why it seems so surprising that our product (or any software for that matter) would need to be upgraded for compatibility with years newer Windows O/S's, when it is standard procedure to ensure that when purchasing a new piece of software, game or other productivity package that it is going to work with the O/S we have currently running on our system! I think people tend to be more careful when making a new sofware purchase than if they have had it installed and running for some time, then wonder why it has problems when running it on newer technology! In reality, (prior to getting rid of the old system) you should always check existing software (and hardware) to ensure it will still run after upgrading your O/S and/or hardware components! This is your accounting software, after all!

Take care,
