Pick Sequences - Still a Problem

Pick Sequences are still not working correctly. This is creating some grief for us.
Our process is:
1) We add new item codes to Inventory (often copied from a similar item then edited). 2) We put the new item on a PO in POA and it asks us if we want to make the item active. We says Yes. 3) We receive the item in POA. 4) We put the item on the shelf and update the Pick Sequence in Inventory/Item Maintenance/Units to the location where the item is physically located on the shelf.
After this process, the Pick Sequence appears correctly in the Inventory Item Inquiry main grid, but when you open the item and look on the QTY tab, the Pick Sequence is NOT THERE. It can be seen on the Profile tab but not on the QTY tab.
When we add the item to an Order in OE the Pick Sequence corrects itself and becomes available in Inventory/Item Inquiry/QTY.
So we are looking for a fix for the Picking Sequence in Inventory/Item Inquiry tab/QTY for new items in stock that have never been sold.
We already have Hot Fix dated June 22/09 (POHFP20090619.EXE) installed.

Hi Susan:
There is a POA Service Pack dated Oct. 29 2009 that supercedes the Hot Fix. There is a fix to Picking Sequence handling but I don't know if it addresses your situation.

This problem is still occurring with new items created this week, while the hot fix and service packs have been long installed.

We are still having problems with Picking Sequences. The Picking Sequence does not display in Item Inquiry on the Quantities tab for any NEW codes we set up. We have to continually go to Edit Pick Sequences and reset the default. Will this ever be fixed? We can't even identify these items so we only find them by chance. Very frustrating!!

When we create a new item in Edit/Item, where and how are we suppose to allow it at a location?

In OE 8.1C, we Edit Item to create a new item and have only 6 tabs, none which are Location. I see now if we go into IC 8.1B that there are 9 tabs visible, the 3 extra tabs you mentioned are there. We rarely go directly to IC but rather use Edit Items in OE since we always have that program running and it's more convenient. I wasn't even aware there were extra tabs in IC.
Since one location is already active (because it was activated in POA when we ordered the product) we have to activate the remaining locations. The Picking Sequence now displays in Item Inquiry on the Quantities tab. Yeah! Unfortunately, the location doesn't show up for the original location that was activated in POA. That requires a reset on that item as well.
I guess we can follow these steps but it seems rather a lengthy and complicated process just to have our locations show up when we add new items. Any chance that it might be a fixable issue in the future?

I just tested it by setting up a new code in IC. If I go to the Location tab at that point and Activate all locations then it solves our issue. It works the same way if we copy to a new code. We can set up our new codes this way from now on and avoid confusion going forward.
Is there a way to activate every item on my inventory right now because I don't know how to find the items that are not active at all locations.
Please advise. Thanks.

We're glad that the function is working for you. I guess it needed to have been confirmed that the item had to have been created in IC.
If your question is whether there is a way to set the Active status for every location and for every existing item, the answer is no. But you can edit a Location in IC and on the second Items tab, click the 'All Items' button to set all items as active for that location. So you can run this once for each of your locations.
You can use Adagio GridView to determine which items are not active at locations, using the I/C Item, I/C Item Locations and I/C Locations tables in a Workspace. I set up the workspace to link the I/C Locations list to the I/C Item Locations list, which selects all the items that ARE defined and active for a particular location. Then a 'Negative' link from the I/C Item Locations view is created to the I/C Items list to show which items ARE NOT active at the specific location. That's the best that I could do at first glance, because when an item has been created but not been made active at a location, a record does not even exist yet - so an 'exception reporting' workspace had to be done to determine which records do not exist, rather on selection from records that do.

Can you clarify, when I create a new item in IC, then go to the Location tab, I am assuming that I should only make the item active the at our main location? This is location where the product will be initially received. The other branches I am assuming should be left at "on demand". No sense activating all them since they may never get any of the particular item. I tested this and the pick sequence shows up correctly in Item Inquiry on the Quanties tab. I assume the other branches will become active if and when they get quantitites on hand of the item?
I still don't understand why when we set up a new code (and do not make it active in IC on the location tab) but order it in POA and make it active at that time, that it doesn't show up on the Item Inquiry Quantities tab? Why does making it active on the IC/Location tab work differently than making it active in POA?

We will activate the new items in IC for now, but please let us know when making the item active in POA will produce the same result. Thanks.
