Hi Leo,

At the current time, Adagio Invoices does not support multi-selection of invoices in History when there are more than 10,000 records in the file. There were technical reasons for this limitation, and it's possible that our new database interface used in Adagio 6.8 will be able to address this, though it is untested.

The ability to multi-select is certainly something on our suggestion list for Adagio Invoices. I cannot promise if and how soon this could be implemented.

Regards,
Softrak Support

Hello Leo

I cannot comment on methods used to 'truncate' the file to make the historical transaction count less than 10,000. Make a backup prior to trying it!!!!

Adagio did not remove the capability for multi-select, only limited it's capability if transactions exceeded 10k. The reason for implementing this in Adagio was due to other issues surrounding multi-select on databases that were this large in QIWIN. The easiest thing to do to prevent similar issues occuring in Adagio was to implement this limit until a solution could be found.

QIP DOS version 6.5A does not have this limit. People who have upgraded to Adagio from the DOS product would be able to remove multiple transactions from history using the DOS product.

Alternatively, depending on the purpose for retaining your historical transactions in the first place, you could:
1. Make a good backup of your data
2. create a new folder
3. put a copy of your Invoices and AR data into this folder
4. remove or rename the QIHIST*.* files in your live data

The next time you post in Invoices, it will create new history files. Before your new transactions reach the 10k limit, you can implement regular procedures to multi-select and remove the unwanted history. When you need to look up historical transactions (or report on them) you can just point Invoices to the newly created folder's 'old' dataset!

Hope this helps!

Take care,

Hi Leo

The issue is with a total historical transactions count of over 10k, not with multi-select of 10k 'at a time'. If you have over 10,000 transactions in history, then you will not be able to multi-select in Adagio Invoices - period. I would not recommend doing this with QIWIN because this is where the original problem stemmed and you may get undesired side effects - as we have indicated - this is why we put the limit in Adagio.

If you use QIP DOS (it must be at least V6.5A), it will still take some time, so you should allocate a time of day where this will not conflict with your other processing requirements. You will not be able to get around the time factor, unless you implement the removal of historical transactions as a regular routine. You can use QIP DOS V6.5A or higher and Adagio Invoices on the same data without problems.

(Just a note that we do not have you in our files as having QIP DOS - please take a moment to print out & fax in your registration if you can, to our Customer Service Department!)

Yes, there are other Users who have history over 10k. I would imagine they would use one of the methods we have suggested to you to keep there databases under control, as these are the only options available, however, they do not call us to tell us these things.

Again, we cannot say if or when R&D will be able to take this limitation off in Adagio. Equipped with this information, it will be up to you to decide which method is best implemented for your business.

Regards,

Sorry, can't even venture a guess at that one! Ultimately, this depends on system and network speed, and the more history you have for it to trudge through, the longer it will take.

Again, please register your copy of QIP!!

Hi Leo,

FYI.

The "block delete" will run significantly faster if it is done locally, and not through a network.

The history deletion issue is known about, and I hope it will be addressed in the next upgrade release of Adagio Invoices.

Hello Leo,

Having your connection to the network "dropped" while editing a transaction in a batch is the same (from the program's point of view) as hitting the power switch. It is certainly possible that this could corrupt the batch. We'll certainly be interested in helping track down the problem, but we will not be able to do much without a copy of your data. Hopefully you are making frequent backups - because the best information for us is a "before and after" snapshot with the data files getting damaged. Don't forget that the new version of Adagio all allow you to backup from the "File" menu. (Unfortunately, with your large historical database, this is going to take a bit of time). If you have a high speed connection, you'll be able to FTP the data to us (although sometimes recording it on a CD and sending it by FedEx is more convenient!).
