The next Receivables 90A service pack should address the linking issue. You will be allowed to link the two files in the desired direction.

Did the linking issue exist in AR8?
I never had this issue in my previous version of the report.

No. The data was extensively re-organized for AR 9.0 and the data layers for Adagio and Crystal updated. It appears we missed an attribute or two in the Crystal Reports data layer.
