Hi All,

We have 7000+ parts in IC, so searching for an item is taking 1-2 minutes. This is taking our order entry people lots of time!

How can I speed up item searches in OE and IC?

Thanks!

Cam

PS - I'm on a paid upgrade plan, but cannot post in the tech support forum - how can I start posting in that forum?

Hello Cam,

You should be able to post in the Tech Support Forum. What happens when you try?

How are you searching your items? How is your part numbering scheme designed? How fast is your network?

This is the message I get when I press new topic in the tech support forums:

You do not have permssions to create a new topic on this forum.

Please use your back button to return to the previous page.

It doesn't matter where we do our searches from (in the details tab in an order, in Edit Items in IC etc) they are all slow. To do I search we press the 'find' button and either double click the entry field or press F6.

Our part numbering scheme has finished goods spread all accross the 7000 parts.

Our network is all connected with 100mbps cable into a 100mbps switch. The switch is connected to the server with a 1g cable (through a 1gb port).

Thanks!

Cam

Hello Cam:

Something is not correct. We have a client with more than 15,000 items. They can use Smartfinder [F6] to search for Item Descriptions "containing" a word or phrase and get a complete response back in 20 to 30 seconds.

One way to see if infrastructure is a problem is to copy your dataset to your local drive (create a folder on C: drive). Then point Adagio at the local dataset and search for items. If the performance is much better, then you have to consider that the LAN is the cause of the problem.

The good news is that the newer versions of Adagio are employing technology that makes searches much faster.

Hi Cam,

Try clearing your cookies using the "My Cookies" option at the bottom of the forum. Your user id certainly has the requisite permissions.

Also, Bruce has the right approach to find out what's causing the lookup delay. See what the performance is like on a local copy of your data.

Cam,

Please make sure your anti-virus program is not checking Adagio programs and data files every time they are opened or closed.

On both workstations and server exclude the Softrak folder and sub-folders from real-time checking. Include them only in scheduled scans.

Hi All,

Definately a LAN issue - search took about 5 seconds with data on the C:\ (opposed to 55seconds, i counted).

Any suggestions besides moving our data to the C:\ ?!

Thanks!

Cam

Cam:

You computer network technician needs to look at:

-- the speed of all the hardware in the path between the workstation and the server. Perhaps one switch or router is an old one runningat 10mbps instead of 100 mbps or better. Or a cable could be faulty resulting in multiple data packets being resent.

-- The server itself. Does it have enough memory? Are other processes on the server affecting its performance? Is the server's AV program doing a real-time check on the Adagio data folder(s)?
