Trying to install Quick reports for windows v6.2B. During the first attempt, my system froze at the set-up window. On the second, I got and error message "can't read file E:\disk1adtup10I.RP" and then was asked retry, cancel or ignore.

What gives?

Ken

Hi Ken,

Quik Reports is a 16-bit application, so that may be an issue on very specific environments. We have verified that is installs correctly on a Windows 2000 and Windows XP computer, among others.

One of the places it could fail is during the tables installation. It opens a DOS window in the background, and if your system does not like DOS windows very much, it has been known to hang.

The file name you quoted is not an actual file on the CD. If you were to look at the CD, there are 5 folders, DISK1 to DISK5, and a 6th folder with the tables install. How are you installing the CD? Are you using any mapped drives are anything out of the ordinary? Can you install to the local workstation?

Hi Ken

Another thought - do you have a virus checker running that could be interfering with the install from this media? If so, try disabling it, then retry the install.

To rule out other problems, you should really close all running applications before installing any software.

Can you try a different CD/disk to see if there is a problem with access to the drive - or perhaps the media has become damaged.

Hope you get it resolved.

I shut everything running down on the system and installed and it went okay. Installed 4 adagio programs on 4 machines in under half and hour! very good systems

On a different note, is there a way to search for and amount such as $200.00 in ledger? I thought fastfinder would do this, but could not seem to get it too look at the amount field.

Hi Ken,

We're glad to hear the installs are much better now.

If the field you wish to search by does not automatically appear in the Smart Finder list, you can edit the columns of the grid to add the field(s) you require. To do this, access the Smart Finder of the field you require, and when the grid appears, double-click on the column title bar (grey). If you have the Column Editor enabled, you can add or remove fields from the grid. Whichever fields you add will be available for performing a search on.

After choosing the fields you want and saving, you can choose the single field to do the smart search from the drop-down at the top left. These settings are saved until you change them again; after closing and re-opening the program, the choice of columns here will remain.

If you are running Ledger 6.8A, you will see a printer icon that will allow you to print the search results. Also, after doing the search, you can access the Smart Finder anywhere else in the program (before closing it or accessing a different database), and the search results will be saved.

Take care,
Softrak Support

Thanks,

I found the available fields, but it does not seem to me like I can search the gl database for a specific amount.

My understanding from the presentations I saw was that if I wanted to search the entire GL for say all items between $200 and $225 i could do so. Was my understanding incorrect?

Thanks,

Ken

Hi Ken

No, your understanding was not incorrect. You can search for specific amounts, if these amounts exist as an Opening Balance or a Current Balance, as these are the only two 'amount' fields available to search on in the Column Editor for Ledger.

You said you found the fields you wanted, so I am assuming that they are one of these. To get the search to find a balance between say, $200.00 and $225.00, after you have pressed <F6> to bring up the Finder:
1. Select Current Balance or Opening Balance from the 1st search criteria scroll box (on far left of Finder window) by clicking on the arrow to the right.
2. Go to the next scroll box (middle), and select the "In the range of" option, again, by clicking on the arrow to the right of the scroll box.
3. In the next box to the right, enter your minimum value (200.00), press Tab, then enter 225.00 for your maximum search criteria.
4. Press Enter to start the search.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

I did misunderstand. I don't want to search for opening or current balances I want to be able to search for specific gl entries.

Thanks anyway.

I see. There IS another search you can do, but don't know if this is what you are looking for.

You can do a search on the Detail Listing or Trial Balance report to see if you can find the entry you are looking for - is this what you mean?

Go to the Reports menu and choose one of these reports. Do a Print PREVIEW. When the report has finished printing to your screen, you should be able to access the 'search' field which resides at the top of the Preview screen (button that looks like a little pair of binoculars sits directly to the right of this field).

Enter your amount in this field, then press the little binoculars. It will take you to the page where it finds the 1st entry that matches your criteria. The next time you click the button, it will go to the next instance and so forth.

This is the closest thing to what you are describing I think. Will this do?

This will suffice, just the process is a little longer, more cumbersum and less flexible. Is there a reason that the amount field cannot be explored in detail?

Hi again, Ken

There is likely a good reason that these particular amount fields cannot be accessed through the Finder or through the search function in the Ledger Reports Preview area. I am going to say simply that this is because they are not available in these areas. Good suggestion though - I will put it on the 'wish list'.

You still have yet another option! In the Financial Reporter, you can 'drill down' to the original transactions, if this will help. To see how this works, open FR and then one of your financial specifications. Then...
1. Right-click on the cell that contains the balance for the account in question.
2. Select Details... (a new window will pop up, displaying the associated entries for this account. If you use Departments, it will break it down into dept totals.
3. You can now click on any of the fields (cells) to get a drill down for the respective Fiscal Periods.
4. Click on any of these to see a complete breakdown for each period (you can even select the period from the scroll box at top)

Is this better - I am running out of options now!

Hi Ken,

The reason you can't search on the detail amounts is that there is no inquiry into this file (it has no "key").

The fastest way to get the information you're looking for is to use Quik Reports and link to the Posted Transaction File and Chart of Account (if you need the account description). Lay out the report the way you want, with whatever subtotals or page breaks make sense, then add the selection rule

    ABS(TxAmount)>200.00

You need the absolute value function to get both debit and credit entries.
