Hi southniagara,
Is the program you are running Adagio Payables, Adagio Checks, or Quik Check for Windows? These are our programs that use a 'Windows' interface that print checks. If so, then all you have to do is open your check specification and increase the width of the date field. You may have increased the font size, made in bold, or changed the format, and the information doesn't quite fit in the box.
When your check spec is open in the Designer, left click on the date field that is not completely printing. You should see it highlighted with a red outline, and a number of small red squares on each side and corner of the field, 8 in all. Move your mouse cursor over the red square on the right side, and you should see it turn into a double-sided arrow pointing left and right. Left click, and while holding the mouse button, drag the size of the field to be a little wider. Save the spec before you close it, and that should be all you have to do.
Make sure that there aren't any other fields that are too narrow. If there are other fields that are missing any characters, the same change would need to be done to each field.
If you are using a DOS product (such as Cashbook) to print checks, it's a completely different issue. Since it doesn't use field widths in the same way as Windows products, the only explanation would be that the date field is 'hardcoded' into your spec, and the '1' was not included. Simply type in the '1' to fix, or better yet replace the hardcoded year with the appropriate date field.
