I am trying to setup importing batches to the ledger from Excel 97. I have a question regarding the fields. The first one I see is Record Type (a 1 character string) - what is this field? and what are valid entries, depending on what?

Any other advice on importing would also be appreciated.

In Accpac Plus GL, there are two different methods of importing batches. One style uses a 'one line per entry' method, where a single Excel row or CSV row in your import file will import one single entry. There is a 'Record Type' field which should be 'E', and this indicates to the import function which style of import batch this is. There are also fields such as Entry Number to allow the import function to group the imported transactions in the desired manner.

It is this style of import transactions that Adagio Ledger adheres to. The first field in the default import template will always be 'E'.

Accpac Plus can also import using a 'header/Detail' style of file, where a single header and one or more detail lines indicate a complete entry to be imported. In this case, the Record Type field could be either 'H' or 'D', depending on the type of line. Adagio Ledger does not import files of this style.

All of the fields that must exist in your import file appear on the 2nd screen, 'Import Field Selection'. You probably have seen this already. Clicking on each field indicates the data type, length, etc. I do not believe we ship a sample import file in the sample data, but it's something we have set up to do for the next upgrade.
