Hey Everybody,

We have a customer that has a really long name and they WILL NOT pay their Invoice if the name shows up abbreviated or incorrect on the Invoice.

Needless to say, their name is longer than the limit allowed in the OE Template. Is there anyway to extend this limit? I can't seem to find anything on it.

thanks
Lucas

Hi Lucas

Yes, put the rest of their name on Address Line 1. There is no way to get more than 40 characters for the customer name field.

Seems to me they're looking for an excuse not to pay an invoice...

It seems that 30 characters is the limit on my software. Is it indeed 40 or was that a typo?

The company will not pay if the invoice if it is on two lines. I don't care what their excuse is, now we have to manually add labels to these invoices.

This is rather unacceptable and I cannot understand why a character limit is even necessary. When the specifications are made custom does it really matter how long the field is?

We have to be able to fit the customer name on all the reports we print.

Well, how about making the default the 30 characters but allow more in custom reports?!?

Hi Lucas

If I were you, I would:

1) Use an optional text field in AR and label it "Name Overflow" (Edit | Company Profile | Optional Fields)
2) Do the same thing in OE, making sure to use the exact same label - doing this causes the optional field to pre-fill when entering an order.
3) Enter the overflow name in the optional field in AR for this customer.
4) Modify the OE invoice spec to display the optional field on the same line as the Customer Name field. Since the optional field will be empty for other customers, it will have no effect on other invoices.

With the latest version of OE, you can modify certain fields on invoices, and the optional fields are modifiable.
