Hi All,

We have multiple users at different locations who post adjusments in inventory. Usually it seems there is no problem for multiple people to be in the Adjusments window, as long as they don't try and post at the same time.

There seems to be one user in particular though that when they are in adjusments, no one else can even enter any adjusments.

Is there a setting or something that this one user will have that stops everyone else from entering adjustments?

Thanks!

Hi Acrylon,

Is the question that you want to have multiple users be able to add to the list of items within the Adjustments function simultaneously, but one user is not able to do so?

If so, then the answer is that entering Adjustments, Shipments, Item Assembly and Stock Transfers are actually single-user functions. You should not be allowed to have more than one user at a time entering adjustments for the same company. It is allowed for multiple users to be accessing separate companies and each entering adjustments.

There is no setting to allow multi-user access to these transactions. If this is for the same company data, you need to get user A out before user B should get access. Receipts and Physical Inventory are multi-user capable.

How do you have Adagio Inventory installed? Are the programs installed in multiple remote sites and reading the same company data?

The program is installed on each computer, but it is all for one company reading from the same database. What is is is people from different locations doing adjustments for their locations.

I got a complaint that when one person is in, they can be in the middle of entering an adjustment, and then they will get a message saying that they cannot post because another user is in.

I think what you are saying though is that only one person can enter adjustments at a time - is that right?

Thanks,

Yes, only one person can be entering adjustments at a time.

In fact, when users are running the same application from the server, the second user will get a message that they can't access the Adjustment entry function because another user is currently there. This protection is being circumvented by having multiple installations of the program being run locally and accessing the same company data.

You should be aware that data corruption is a possibility when applications are configured in this manner. Rather, the application could be installed on a terminal server and all users from the different location would run the same program files.

Hi Acrylon

I think tech support's wording is not strong enough. It is strongly recommended that Adagio be installed on the server rather than being installed on individual workstations. Installing Adagio on individual workstations is a recipe for disaster because there are safeguards built into Adagio that only work properly when there is a single installation.

Installing Adagio on multiple workstations all accessing the same data is a recipe for disaster. With today's high speed networks, there is absolutely NO reason for this configuration.

This should be fixed ASAP. It appears that Adagio's multi-user record locking is not functionling correctly as a result of this improper install.

There - was that forceful enough?

Lol - quite.

So it should all be running off of one server then? About 50% of our users currently use Citrix to access the Adagio Programs (they all log onto the same server).

Everyone in head office though just has the workstation install and accesses the data on the network drive.

Just so I have this strait - this is a recipe for disaster?

Should we get everyone to using Citrix to use Adagio?

Thanks!

A "workstation install" is not the same as running the application off the local drive. The local workstations should be loading the EXE from exactly the same location as all the other users, and all their drive mappings must be consistent, at least as far as the drives letters used to find the Adagio applications and the data.

We have seen many successful Adagio sites use a strict Terminal Server configuration (where everyone accesses the modules through Terminal Server, whether or not they are local). It works fine.

Everyone uses the exact same thing to map drives (Novell).

When I go to the properties on my desktop shortcut for OE the target is P:\SOFTRAK\OEWIN\OEWIN.EXE

This is the network location, and it is where everyone else's shortcuts point to.

Does this mean we are OK?
