Hello All,

I was curious if the possibility exists to create a departmental mask which includes departments which are not necessarily within a wildcardable range, eg. 116,655,902. I notice that the field for the mask only lets you input so many characters. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Darcy Chretien

Hi Darcy,

You can create department ranges of consecutive departments (say 100:199) or department masks that utilize a commonality in the department coding scheme (such as ?00 to get all 3-digit departments ending with '00'), but there is no facility to design customized non-concurrent wild-card ranges.

To get what you want in the easiest way, you can create a new financial statement using the 'drag-and-drop' method from the View Account Group screen. Select the 'Departmental Comparative' checkbox, and then select the desired departments and the 'Sum selected departments' option. This will create a spreadsheet with a number of columns, and that 'Sum Selected departments' column will contain your range of non-contiguous departments. Use the 'Hide when Printed' format on all the other columns so that they don't print - only the summed column will print.

Hello Darcy:

Another option is the function RNGMERGE(). It allows you to specify a list of non-contiguous Departments. We have one client creating very complex reports with this feature.

See the sample statement GL!DeptRngMerge.sam and look at the 2 right-hand columns.

Hi Darcy,

If you take Tech Support's suggestion and create a drag-and-drop departmental comparative, you'll see that it uses the =RNGMERGE() function to generate the column for the departments you have selected.

It's a fast way to generate a model.

Andrew,

Thanks for the follow-up, I did use tech support's suggestion on the departmental comparative. I actually did see that it uses the =RNGMERGE()function, which was perfect.

Thanks guys!
