Hello All,

I'm cleaning up a site for a client that we did not originally set up and I have a few questions. I was curious if there was a way to extend the module description lengths, ie. account names, or for example in A/R, the invoice number lookup. The way the accounts were orginally set up cuts off the account names when viewing the list of accounts and in other instances. Is there a way to extend the fields???

Thanks,

Darcy Chretien

Hi Darcy,

Did you want to be able to add more characters to a field, or are you wanting reports to have wider fields so that the existing information does not get cut off? I am assuming the latter scenario is the case.

Many reports have only so much room to fit information, and to widen one field would mean having to decrease the width of another field (or remove it). If you or your Adagio partner has Crystal Reports for Adagio, a standard Adagio report can be modified for changes such as widening fields, then saved to a particular \ModRP directory.

If you are talking about the grids that display information, or finders or smartfinders, then you can use the Column Editor to change the width of columns to what you require for alomst every grid in Adagio, or add/remove particular columns as desired.

If you mean being able to add more characters to a field, the data structure has pre-defined maximum lengths. If you need more characters in fields such as descriptions or customer names, the 90A releases of Adagio will give longer fields (as we have already done for Ledger 90A).

Hi Darcy,

Since you mentioned the set up - is the problem that all the names are in ALL CAPS? Most fields are not sized to fit all capitalized names. Since you're cleaning up the site, it's pretty easy to export the names/descriptions into Excel, use the =PROPER() function to fix the casing of the names and then import them back into the database.
