Dear Rickscr

I can't say I have heard of that message being returned during any phase of a DataCare check. File unit invalid messages usually indicates that the product in question (running during a certain function, or in this case being checked by DC) is using an unconventional process that is not recognized by the application being used, or one not recognized by the WSM version being used - or something to that effect.

To check the File Unit itself, while in the function being performed (DIC), press <ALT-F3> to see the file units in use, or <ALT-F2> to see the resources being used.

Here are more notes for you to further diagnose the actual problem...

1. DataCare V6.1A was released in 1994! It is compatible with WSM 6.1 as well as other products that were released just prior to that time frame.

2. If your client is not using the 940616 release, but using 940204 - there could be other issues. The 940616 release fixed these problems, but I have no documentation this far back to further identify specific issues.

3. If your client is using such an old version of DC to check much newer ACCPAC Plus or ACCESS products, or is using a newer WSM than 6.1 - then all bets are off.

The currently shipping version of DC is V6.5A (001128). More information on it's compatibility with other products can be found at http://www.softrak.com/Comp_cht.pdf .

Hope this helps!

Regards,
Softrak Support

Hello again, rickscr

DataCare would be able to check SuperClerk data only if the SC Developers adhered to the integrity check standards expected by WSM DIC - otherwise, even a normal type of check may not be reliable! (Is this in effect, what they have told you?)

If the normal DIC standards are in place, DC still would not be able to perform the extra field check (flat and keyed files) unless the Developer of SuperClerk made tables available for DC to do this more thorough type of check on their product. However, you can easily turn off the flat and keyed file check in DC's Housekeeping - Configure area and it will still provide a more complete check than the WSM DIC and provide you with a more (verbose) detailed report afterwards to see where the problems exist. (Provided of course, that the DIC standards are in place in SC.)

If however, your client requires a reliable, thorough check of their other ACCPAC Plus modules (if used), a DC upgrade would be recommended.

Technical Support does not have pricing information. To find out the cost of upgrading your client to the current version of DC from their V6.1A version, please contact our Customer Service Department. You can email them at info@softrak.com or you can call direct (604) 736-3741.

Hope this is more helpful!
Regards,
