Hi All,

We are using an old version of this 'Contact Master' program for Accpac that is no longer supported by the manufacturer (I think they went out of business), and we are tired of paying IT to fix it.

Is there a newer, supported product similar to Contact Master?

Thanks!

Hi Acrylon

A history of Contact Master...

There are two versions of Contact Master - DOS and Windows. Both were developed and sold by Softline Systems, which was bought by ACCPAC many years ago. Both versions are discontinued.

Adagio SalesCQ does much of what Contact Master does, and it converts notes. Depending on which flavor of Contact Master you are using and the features you are using, SalesCQ may be the product you are looking for.

For starters, tell us whether you are using DOS or Windows, and then I'll ask you more questions.

Hi Steve,

I beleive it is the Windows version for Accpac - the install folder is labeled 'CMWIN'.

Our AP lady basically uses it for collection calls. She'll go in and pull something like all customer invoices over 60 days. She can then look at the customer and all her notes.

I think you said it is possible to bring in the history from the old contact master - customer notes and stuff. Am I hearing you correct?

Thanks!

Hi Acrylon

Yes, it's the Windows version. That means I have more to tell you.

When the customer notes are converted, the conversion is pretty good. But not perfect. For one thing, there is no category field in SalesCQ notes, so that field is skipped. Also, I believe that notes which wrap onto multiple lines in Contact Master are converted to multiple notes in SalesCQ, and that can get ugly.

SalesCQ does not have alternate contacts for a customer like CMW does.

I'm not sure whether SalesCQ will convert CMW prospects.

Contact Master for Windows has a tab with custom fields. SalesCQ has optional fields, and I think some of the CMW custom fields flow into the SalesCQ optional fields, but unless you define the SalesCQ optional fields in Profile, you won't see the transferred info. A difference is that CMW custom fields can be validated, and SalesCQ optional fields will allow any entry.

I'm making SalesCQ sound worse than it is. There are some major advantages over CMW, but most people are more interested in what they will lose rather than what they will gain.

Hi Acrylon:

I recently converted a Contact Master Windows ver. 2.0 dataset to SalesCQ.

Further to Steve's notes, the Prospects did come across (though this client had only a handful). I also found that the Notes seemed to come across with no problem. The client observed that SalesCQ shows only the first line of each note in the grid whereas CM showed more of each note but that is a minor issue.
