We have always had Adagio Email setup configured as "Direct" and it worked without problems. My ISP Comcast sent an email saying that it will no longer accept smtp connections through Port 25 (default) and that the port had to be changed to Port 587. This restored my email program (Thunderbird) but now Adagio shows an error when sending the test email by the Direct method. If I attempt to send emails with Adagio Mapi method (now and before the above change) then Thunderbird opens, says another program is attempting to send an email but when I give it permission to send the email, the program says that no recipients are designated and the email fails. How can I restore email service to Adagio, preferably by the Direct method?

Hi, Rick,

From your post, it sounds like you weren't using ThunderBird prior to the port being changed. If that's the case, why not continue using whatever email client you were using; the one that worked?

Have you checked your Email Setup within the the module you are running email from? Do you need to make changes there now that there have been some changes?

Hi Rick,

We hard code port number 25 for the SMTP as that is the one "everyone" uses. Perhaps that's changing.

We'll see what's involved in exposing the port number so that it can be changed. In the interim, I'm afraid you'll have to use the MAPI transmission method, or convince Comcast to change your port number back (yeah - right <g>).

We have always used Thunderbird for the email. I recently set up email for a friend with AT&T and AT&T also required Port 587. We can't send emails using Mapi because Thunderbird reports that no recipients have been designated (untrue) and the email fails. This also happened before the port change. The Direct method worked perfectly in the past and saves a lot of time since we just tell it to print to email the entire range of that day's invoices (after checked the reprint box) and it would work unattended.

The ISP is targeting spam with this change.

Hi Rick,

Sorry, but we won't be able to get you a quick fix for this (although we are looking at how best to approach it). A workaround would be to set up a local SMTP server at your site, and send mail to it on Port 25 for it to forward out to the web. I do understand how much work that would be, and you might prefer to "sit tight" until we can do something directly for you.

Is Thunderbird MAPI-compliant?

I get conflicting answers when I ask that, including using a Google search. One source said that it uses Simple MAPI (unlike Outlook) and the only requirement is to make Thunderbird the default mail client.

I expect that someone with Thunderbird experience can provide a definitive answer.

I will install Eudora and set it as the default email program but just use it for sending Mapi emails through Adagio. Hopefully this will solve the immediate problem. Thanks for the help.

Installing Eudora and setting it as the default email program did the job. The invoice range for a day or so can be sent out by the Mapi method completely unattended and it has the advantage of not leaving copies in the email program that I use for other emails. Although some websites say that Thunderbird is Mapi compliant, it didn't work that way for me.
