In Adagio Inventory, is it possible to create codes for kits or for a combination of products already on our system?

For example, we have a code set up for Item A at $10 and a code set up for Item B at $10. Our promotion this month is, if you buy Item A & Item B together we offer a $5 discount. Could we set up a new code called Item C that would take the inventory and costing out of Item A & B and then sell it for the price of Item C ($15)?

I think I just figured out how to create a new Bill of Material and then Assemble Master Items to accomplish what I was asking above. Now my question is, is there a way to Dis-Assemble Items?

Hi Susan

In Adagio terminology, Item C is an assembled item. You would need to create a bill of material for Item C, made up of 1 Item A and 1 Item B.

You can do then everything you described, except that in order to invoice an order with Item C on it, you would first have to assemble the required quantity. There is currently no way for the system to automatically assemble as you invoice. It sure would be nice if there were, though.

Some other issues are: a) you would not be able to view on screen availability of Items A and B while taking the order for Item C, and b) sales history reports will be misleading because Item C sales should be included in with Item A and B sales, but they won't be.

There is no easy way to dis-assemble items (you have to make multiple inventory adjustments, positive for each component and negative for the master item).

Allowing negative numbers when assembling has been on my wish list for many years. So has being able to modify a BOM on the fly, and being able to assemble fractional quantities.

I second those requests!

Also.. it would be good if Assembled Items used the Average Unit Cost. Instead it took the cost from the oldest lot (FIFO) which happened to be higher resulting in a higher cost on the Assembled Item C and lower cost on the quantities remaining in Items A and B. If I'd entered a manual inventory adjustment I could have used the Average Unit Cost.

Susan,

To address your point on costing. By setting your inventory to FIFO you are explicitly telling IC to use the oldest costed items first, and the assembly processing is following this process.

Hi Susan

You can assign any method of costing you want to an item and the general rule in accounting is that components that are assembled usually are costed at Standard costing.

Your problem is that the same items can be used as a components or sold outright. This is where costing can be tricky.
