Attempting to install Sales Analysis 8.1 at client. All other modules are 6.8. Receiving "Unable to find data dictionary" message. Manual suggests reinstalling. Tried that a couple of times, no success. This is pretty basic setup. All modules on one machine (C:\), no network or lanpak. Data integrity is fine. pc

Hello cederwall,
It's possible that SA is looking for at least V8.0 of the other modules (specifically AR, IC and Invoices or OE).
Does the error message name a dictionary?

Sorry, it was late last night and I was going from memory. The actual message is "Critical Error (1212) Invalid Path to Data Dictionary". All other information in my original question is accurate.
I hope its not an issue with needing V8.0 of another module. SA is compatible with V6.8 modules, right?

Hello cederwall,
I was able to create Adagio SalesAnalysis data and retrieve data without any problems using 68B versions of: Receivables (040507), Inventory (041113), OrderEntry (041112) and Invoices (050922).
The [1212] message usually indicates that the wrong dictionaries are being accessed.
Please check the dates and times of the dictionaries. The ones dated after the latest Invoices 68B release should be: 06/07/2005 05:08 PM 951,392 @B65AR.SSI 06/09/2005 06:33 PM 21,512 MC61AR.SSI 09/19/2005 02:00 PM 908,972 @I68BR.ssi 05/08/2006 02:10 PM 36,864 @L80AI.ssi 03/21/2007 11:09 AM 517,112 @L80AR.ssi 05/04/2007 01:09 PM 120,320 @N80AI.ssi 05/28/2007 08:48 AM 1,676,732 @N80AR.ssi 09/27/2007 01:17 PM 134,492 @@81AR.ssi 09/27/2007 01:17 PM 11,264 @@81AI.ssi 01/07/2008 01:16 PM 45,056 @S80AI.ssi 01/07/2008 01:16 PM 607,412 @S80AR.ssi

I finally got back to this client. The dictionary dates on their system does not agree with the dates you provided except for the first two (B65AR and MC61AR). This was the case even after installing the most current service pack. One difference between your test creation and the client's setup is the existence of Invoices. This client does not run Invoices, just Order Entry. I don't think this is the problem as I have other clients that run Sales Analysis with OE only. Any ideas? I still get the 1212 error message. pc

Our compatibility chart indicates that the current SalesAnalysis will work with other Adagio at the 6.8 level. If you are using version 6.8 of Adagio (say OE, IC and AR), then you will have different dates than above, as these are for version 81A of the Adagio applications.
The error 1212 is indeed a problem with the \softrak\dict directory, either a missing or incorrect dictionary. One possible way this could happen is that the file date of a dictionary was changed, then attempting to install an update does not copy in an updated dictionary because of that wrong date. Now the dictionary is out of sync and could cause the 1212 error, and re-installing would not solve the problem.
What application(s) is giving the 1212 error? Is it SalesAnalysis or a different program, or a number of different programs?
Check the 'install.log' and 'install.txt' files in your C:\softrak\srwin program directory to see what dictionary files were installed and which were not.
These are the '68B' dictionary files that Adagio SalesAnalysis installs and not mentioned earlier - do these match what you have?: @N68BI.ssi - Aug 26, 2004 @N68BR.ssi - Aug 26, 2004 @O68BI.ssi - Aug 26, 2004 @O68BR.ssi - Aug 26, 2004 @R68BI.ssi - May 5, 2004 @R68BR.ssi - May 5, 2004
What specific versions of you other Adagio programs (AR/IC/OE) are you using? You can check this from the Help/About menu.

Thanks for your quick response.
The dates on the Sales Analysis dictionary files you listed match the ones in the dictionary folder.
The specific modules installed are: Ledger 8.0A (040223) Receivables 6.8B (040507) Payables 6.8B (050112) Order Entry 6.8B (041112)

P.S. We're trying to install Sales Analyis 8.1 and we get this error message trying to create. All other modules run fine.

In some cases M$ Windows will change the dates of files during an install. The result can be that when a subsequent install is done, the dictionary files appear to be newer than they are, and they are not overwritten as they should be.
The tricky part is that the problem does not occur after the first install where dates were changed, but only when a later upgrade or service pack is installed.
To find the problem at a client's site, I compared dictionary files from my own site to those at the client's site, in Softrak\dict , \Qrasp and \Softrak\System\Qrasp.
