As a new Crystal for Adagio users, I was wondering if any of the Reports I create can be accessed from within Adagio or can they only be accessed from Crystal?

Thanks for the help

You can make directories, such as softrak\OEwin\CustomRP to store your reports in and they will be available from a new Custom Reports item on the reports menu in OE.

In addition to David's comment, you can also use the PrintTool application that comes with Crystal Reports for Adagio, to print reports. The program Printool.exe is in the \softrak\rpwin directory, and is most useful if you want to allow people to print reports but not give them access to the accounting programs.

There is a workstation setup for PrintTool (ptseup.exe) if you wish to set this up on a workstation that does not have the Crystal Reports application installed.

You can also use Print tool to setup a Crystal Report as a desktop shortcut.

Thanks for the 2 replies.

First, David, what is OE? I like the idea that I will be able to access the reports from Adagio but do I need to install Crystal on every workstation that I want to allow access to the reports if I do it that way?

As for Doswalt's reply, it seems like a good option too, but how do I get access to the report using that tool?

Thanks again.

Hi Yann,

'OE' is the program Adagio OrderEntry.

You do not need to install Crystal Reports to every workstation that needs to print reports. In fact, this is not allowed due to the licensing requirements. Rather, make sure that the Softrak component of the installation (\softrak\rpwin) is on the network and in the same place as the other Adagio programs you use.

As David mentioned, as long as you save the customized reports in the correct folder, Adagio programs will automatically generate the link to load the report for printing. You save the reports to the appropriate folder, depending on which application you want to load the report from. If OrderEntry, then the folder David mentioned. Or \softrak\apwin\customrp if you want to load from Adagio Payables. or \softrak\icwin\customrp for Inventory. And so on.

Each module of Adagio should be installed in a subdirectory of x:\softrak where x=drive letter. OEwin=Orderentry, APWin=Accounts Payable, ICwin=Inventory, etc. Using this convention you can put reports in the module they pertain to. You can put payable crystal reports in X:\softrak\APwin\CustomRP to have a menu item for the reports under Reports | Custom Reports. To print the report just select the menu item. If Crystal reports for Adagio is installed on the network, the workstations do not have to have the installation.

THanks for the info again.

I was in fact able to create the customrp folder in my Receivable folder and when I luched AR for the first time it updated the menu and added the report.

Unfortunately, I cannot view, preview, print or even exprot the report at the moment. The window does come up but it does not produce any output when I click either of the above options.

I seems like I am missing something to be able to view it. I have even install the Print Toll utility and that did not solved my issue.

Any suggestions?

Hi Yann,

If the report contains a 'Crystal 8.x' feature, the print engine won't be able to recognize it and thus when previwing your report, the screen will appear to simply flash.

This is not due to anything you did wrong. Currently, some reports will work from the CustomRP location and some will not.

So how do I make my report work?
I thought it was because I had 1 parameter in my report but I deleted it and t did not solve my issue.

What do consider a Crystal 8.5 Feature? Is adagio not made to work with that version?

I hope I can find a solution to this issue as I not easy way for these report to be accessed at the moment. I might just have to install Crystal on the machines that will need to access these reports.

Thanks again for all the help.

Most reports work well as CustomRP, but an 8.X feature will give problems. I had a couple reports not print this way due to an error in my report layout formatting an item number (report would print directly in Crystal). Your next best option is to do the workstation install of the Adagio Print Tool Utility mentioned above.

I just tried the Print Tool and I had no success with that one either. I am really curious to know why that is.

It was actually behaving the exact same way as it did when I was trying to print it or opn it in AR.

I'll have to try to create a new report from top to buttom and see if this is where the issue lies.

I am a report writer and I have been doing so for a few years so I really don't think it's because I have done something wrong in my report.

THe issue must have to do with Adagio.

Thanks again for the help.

The issue is the version with the print engine being used, not anything you are doing incorrectly. Both PrintTool and the CustomRP use the 7.0 version of the print engine, which is why I previously mentioned a 'Crystal 8.x' feature.

If you have a copy of the 8.5 version of the CRPE32.DLL file (you will if you have Adagio JobCost), copy it to a \softrak\system\crpe directory. If you do, this will force PrintTool to use this cpre32.dll and I'm guessing your report will work. This workaround has no effect on CustomRP reports.

I do have the CRPE32.dll file on my computer, I found it in the C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder (5,662KB). I also have it in the C:\program files\commen files\Crystal Decisions\2.5\bin (8,001KB). There is also another instance in the C:\program files\commen files\Business Objects\Common\3.5\bin folder (8,184KB).

At the moment I do have 3 Versions of Crystal Report install on my system, 8.5, 10 and 11.5.

The smallest of the crpe files the 5,662KB is the exact same size as the one found in the \SOFTRAK\system\WIN32 folder.

I do not have the CRPE directory on my system. And I don't think we have the JobCost module licenced either.

I'm not sure if there will be a work around for my issue but if you can give me more directions I will be happy to try anything out that can solve this issue.

Thanks one more time.
Yann

You are right that the CRPE folder does not exist, but you could create it. And you don't need JobCost to try this workaround - I just suggested it as a way to check if you had this file or not. As you do have an 8.5 version of crpe32.dll, it is perfectly OK to try this out by copying as from a previous posting.

Hi,

I have tried the last suggested option / workaround and again I did not succeed.

Any more suggestions?
Where should I take this from here?
I have just pruchased this Crystal for Adagio, will Adagio support me directly?

Hello Yann,

Have you asked the person from whom you purchased Crystal Reports for Adagio for any assistance?

In Crystal, use "Save as" and select Crystal 7.0 report.

Not yet.

But I really don't understand why I am running in this type of issue with the software. I am a Crystal Report Writer and I have been working wich Crystal Reports and MSSQL Database for years without any issues.

Can you please explain to me why I am having such troubles with the Crystal for Adagio?

Thanks
Yann

Thanks for the suggestion but unfortunately, it was not the solution.

Thanks to Tech Support for the tip on copying CRPE32.dll to the Softrak\System\CRPE folder. I tried it at a client site yesterday and it worked great.

I can now use PrintTool to process reports that contain Crystal 8.5 features (because it's really hard to know what's version 8.5-related and what's not)!

Yann:

The CRPE32.dll that you described is version 7.0. Version 8.5 is 4925 KB in size. You don't have that version of the run-time on your computer.

The run-time file is installed with the Adagio modules and they are still using version 7.0 (aside from Job Cost perhaps).

I suggest that you ask your Adagio consultant to supply CRPE32.dll in version 8.5. Copy that file into the new CRPE folder you just created. Then PrintTool should be able to run any reports created using CRA 8.5.
