Hi Mike,

Are some workstations able to print your reports, yet the new workstations cannot? The memory that the error message is referring to is the available conventional memory, not the 64 or 128Mb of extended memory. Go to a DOS prompt and type MEM to see the amount of free conventional memory. You'll need a minimum of 530K, and probably more like 570K.

What version of Windows do you have? If it's Windows ME, it deals with the files setup differently that other Windows versions. If this isn't Windows ME-related, then there is no reason that this shouldn't work.

Also the size of the report makes a difference. A report with 10 fields and no subtotals requires less memory than a report with 25 fields, each subtotaled 3 times, grand totalled, and selection formulas and ranges defined. Go to Options, then Configure to see the maximum fields for the report. If it is not 250, then set it back.

Lastly, you could try making a copy of your data and placing that copy onto your local hard drive C: rather than reading from your network. Set up a new Start List entry for Quik Reports that point to the data copy, and try working on the same report. Do you have the same problems? If not, then perhaps the issue is network related.

Hi Mike

To free up more conventional memory, noting you are using Windows 98, Microsoft recommends the following lines in your C:\CONFIG.SYS:

device=c:\windows\himem.sys
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE RAM
dos=high,umb
files=250

You must reboot for the change to take effect.

Open a DOS window both before and after the change and type MEM. Look at the line that says "Largest executable program."

Hope this helps!

No problem, Mike - glad it worked - it saved us scratching our heads anymore on this one!
