My client wants to be able to copy and paste the OE ship-to address block from an order to a word document in one step, not one address line at a time. They would really love to be able to copy and paste the details as well, but that is a pipe-dream.

I'm thinking that the best approach would be to preview an order confirmation document on the screen, and highlight the block to copy/paste. But it doesn't appear you can highlight a block in a preview screen.

Is there some other idea you may have that is similar to this? I'm trying to use my creativity to come up with some workaround that is easier than having to design and use a Crystal Report or GridView.

Thanks

Steve

What are they doing with the Word document that can't be done with an OE spec?

Actually they want to paste the block into their ACT program's word processor, which is where they create drop-ship Purchase Orders. Please don't suggest that they use Adagio for their POs; there are reasons they use ACT.

Again, the general question is how can one copy and paste a block of text such as a ship-to address into a Word document.

OK - I understand.

Sorry, you can't (although a screen capture program like snagit (http://www.snagit.com) might be able to.

Steve:

Since I just purchased Snagit, I wanted to test Andrew's suggestion.

It does work but adds extra steps. For this to work, Snagit should be running
-Press a user-defined hotkey ie. [Ctrl] [PrintScreen]
-Highlight the OE address block on-screen using the mouse
-The image is converted to text into the Snagit editor
-Highlight the lines of text & Copy
-Paste them into ACT

It works. The next question is whether that's a convenient solution for your client!

Thanks Andrew and Bruce

Snagit was on my list of programs to try out. It just moved up to the top.

I just tried it and it sort of works. The end result is not "text" per se but rather a picture of text. Or am I missing something. I may want to have the option to edit the text that was pasted.

Hi Steve,

There is a SnagIt option to extract the etxt from a screen capture.

On our lists of possible enhancements for Receivables and Payables V9.0A is a copy/paste button that would work as you desire.

I see the option but it doesn't work on a previewed Adagio form. Can you try it and see if I am missing something?

Thanks

Hi Steve:

Snagit has what they call "Profiles". On the main Snagit screen they include some common ones. The one that converts to Text uses a full window - you can't highlight just a region (ie. the address).

You need to create a new Profile in which you select i) Region rather than Window and ii) option to convert to Text. There's a wizard in the upper right-hand corner of Snagit. It's very quick.

Hi Bruce

No luck. I created the new profile using the wizard, and when I went to "snag" the region of text, I got the error message "Unable to capture text. If you can Copy the text you want to the Clipboard, try using the Input > Clipboard option to capture the text from the Clipboard." Of course, if I could copy the text to the Clipboard, what would I need Snagit for?

I am getting frustrated. Please don't tell me what "should" work. Give it a shot with a previewed invoice, copying the ship-to address block, and let me know whether it works for you.

Thanks

Steve
