Dates can be formatted in a number of different ways. For formulas GLFPS and GLFPE that output starting and ending dates for fiscal periods, there is a customization option that affects formatting. From the View menu, choose Customize, and on the Settings tab, there is a field labelled 'ColSpec date format'. Here you can enter the date formatting you require, such as dd-MMM-yy. This will affect all specifications.
If you only require this formatting for this statement, you can include additional information to the GLFPE formula to apply a different date format just to that cell. In your example, it would look something like either of these:
=GLFPE(G$6,"dd-MMM-yy")
=GLFPE("LY","dd-MMM-yy")
