Hello All,

The problem as outlined by Bruce and Ryan is surprisingly common in the First Nations world. Isolation of communities, staff capacity, staff turn-over, Chief and Council turnover, Band politics, organizational complexity, and the audit requirements of INAC, Health Canada and other funders’, all contribute to significant delays in yearend audits and cut-offs. Given that the majority of the accounting for some First Nation groups occurs at the yearend process resulting in thousands of year end entries, again it is not surprising that the “next year” (2011) dataset could be required before the prior year (2009) dataset has been completed.

I understand now that the “import posted transactions” function does not affect the closing and subsequent opening balances, but had assumed that the “closing entries” would automatically be created, much like a prior period posting.

I have spoken to my client and they too will forego the cost of a “data fix” as described by Ryan and simply make adjustments to the opening balances in April of 2009.

I do understand the complexity of allowing 3 open posting years is significant, however would definitely add it to my wish list of enhancements.
