In an earlier posting on this thread you said:

"When I click on the figures I get a detail report showing the opening balance and the years transactions and a closing balance"

Income and Expense accounts Opening Balance should be zero. If your drilldown is showing an "Opening Balance" that is not zero then there is something wrong with you G/L and a data repaired will be required.
