Steve is correct in that just deleting the items is not a good idea as there can be a lot of references with the deleted item with your database.

The same Toolkit that Steve refers to also has a feature for deleting items where it will find all references of the item being delted and remove them. If you would like to acquire this toolkit please let me know.
