Not sure if it actually locks the database, or whether this is part of your code or WebSafe's but after a normal Adagio backup has completed and finsihed writing the backup zip file...

While the backup zip file is being uploaded to the WebSafe, the user who initiated the backup has to wait (and this can be quite long with a complete data set of a large company) until the upload is complete before getting back control of their Adagio application.

Seems unnecessary to me.
