Control accounts are used to send the COGS to the general ledger and to control the costing method. What type of reporting are you trying to accomplish? Categories control the revenue accounts. What about the reports in Inventory control? Are they not providing the analysis you need? or SalesAnalysis?

What specifically are you trying to report on? I've seen inventories with almost 100,000 parts that only used a couple of control accounts.
